    Hello all!

I have decided to squeeze some more life out of my laptop rather than upgrade right now and wanted to know if there were any particular SSD's that have been confirmed to work with the FX. I will also be upgrading the screen to a 1900x1200 and upgrading the processor to an X9100, especially now that they can be overclocked. So I will be looking to sell my current T9600 CPU as well. Any suggestions or interest in the CPU?

That's a noble thought but just researching price of X9100 today is around a $1000( link), the SSD, lets say $250, and the screen $100. These are just quick numbers and haven't looked for the lowest price anywhere. But this this kind of scratch could get you a better laptop for the future with a i7-720qm chip in it, better video card and screen(most likely 1920x1080). Then you could stick a i7-940xm in it down the road when the prices come down on them.
I did the same thing your doing now, only about 6 months ago, and saw that some of the laptops out there with i5 chips  were outperforming my lappy with a T9900 in 3Dmark test and others LINK2. So I looked around for something I could upgrade further into the future and still be ahead of what I got now and that wound up being the G73JH.
I'm not saying go buy an ASUS, I'm just saying that before you do what you said your going to do, research it, price it and see if its worth it when it all said and done. The difference in price of what your proposing and a new lappy might not be that far apart.
I still use my P-7805u for Autocad Civil 3D and CS5 as those will run faster with a duo core at 3.06mhz than the slower speeds of the i7-720qm.
Anyway good luck and I hope you have have fun, regardless of what you decide. :)

Yeah X9100s are much cheaper on ebay, around $250-350. My X9000 also scored over 3k in passmarks CPU benchmark when it was overclocked. It was only a few hundred points behind my i7-740qm. A 7805u with a overclocked X9100, SSD, and a 1920x1200 screen is still a very nice laptop. My old 6860 with a overclocked X9000 was a very powerful machine and isn't that far behind my G73 in performance.

Just buy an eBay X9100 I had an eBay X7800 in my 6860 for the 6 months before I sold it no problems whatsoever and next month I'll be putting an x9100 in my G71.

I just put an x9100 in my 7811 and I got it off of ebay. I recommend shirley's cpu store for it. I paid 250 for mine, shipped. It has been absolutely perfect so far. Lower temps, more speed, overall it is a better experience w/ the x9100

As for SSDs, I personally don't recommend them if you intend on doing anything on a budget. I feel that their speed increase is negligible when compared to 2 high density drives in raid. I got 2x 500gb scorpio blues in mine and even at 5400 rpm, the setup is blazing fast because of raid 0.

If you insist on SSD because you have no need for high capacity, I have heard good things about kingston drives. My friend has one in his sager that he really likes. His intel drive died after only 3 months but he was also running that thing as a cad station so maybe he overheated it....but the kingston took it like a champ.

The x9100 is awesome, no doubts there. I went with a SF2 based drive, stay away unless you like doing frequent Secure Erase procedures on the SSD............
