    just a heads up i just snagged 2 of the 200 gigs on clearence for 111.00 a piece also the awsome thing about this package is it comes with a free external enclosure and some cloning software as well so its a steal in my mind .

    goin RAID 0 :)

    edit forgot to ad i found mine at best buy auburn hills MI and since its a clearance item every store may not be doing the same thing but its worth a look.

    Wouldn't you get better performance from a 5400rpm 320gb drive due to data density?

    I might be completely wrong here (and forgive me if i am) but i thought raiding 2 of the 320gig drives gave the same or better preformance than Raiding the 7200RPM 200GB drives.

    Its the reason i feel so stupid now. I went and spent the money for 320 gb 7200rpm drives and now i find out that i would have gotten better preformance and more storage if i would have went with the samsung 500GB drives :(

    Youre actually correct. The benchmark results for the 320gb 5400RPM Scorpios are coming out better than the 7200RPM 200gb drives and at a lower power consumption.

    access times and the 16 megs of cache are very nice on the 7200 rpm drives and over all are just snappier but to each his own i always say :). my 320 in my 6860 ran blazing hot and was the reason there was no way in heck i was going to put 2 of them in my machine. the samsung 500 gig drives are 3 160 gig platters so whether there as fast or not im not sure.

    The overall speed difference between all the above is not that much, given that adding a 320gb 5400rpm is the cheapest way to go and the speed is nice too.

    Well after getting to play around with my new drives for the past few hours the difference is very nice to me. not sure how it would have been had i just got another 320 but now i have a nice free external 320 and my new drives and i couldnt be happier cause the palmrest is now not scorching hot and the load times are most definite much faster not to mention just opening and closing programs. i always ran a tidy defraged comp so i can tell the difference :).
