I decided I'm more interested in a portable laptop than a desktop replacement at this point in my life, as such I'm selling my old P7811-FX. I wanted to be sure to offer it here since it's one of the few models that was poached from Bestbuy before the actual release date. As such it avoided most of the overheating issues that the later ones had.

If you know anyone who is interested please pass this along!

Nice laptop. I also got mine prior to the official release date and I've also not had any overheating issues. I was curious though what you meant by "additional cooling" in the early models as I can't find any reference.
You shouldn't have any trouble selling it.

I wanted to keep it simple since I'm not sure who my audience will be. Basically the initial models that cost $1550 actually used Arctic Silver for a thermal paste, while the following models did not (and resulted in a number of overheating issues).

Ah, ok. I just replaced mine with AS5 when I put in my T9900. I use a Zalman NC-2000 pad which helps a lot too plus some mods in Rivatuner.
    Good luck selling your laptop.

Been thinking of selling my P-7805u too. I have a portable laptop and find I just don't get to use the beast. Mine is one of the early ones with the 1920x1200 screens too. Only other thing is the original 320 GB 7200 and an additional 500GB WD Blue along with a P9600 ES and ICD. I upgraded to Win7 HP so if I get rid of it that and the 3 burnt recoveries would be included.

I've never had a single heat issue even overclocked. A case and Zalman 2000 and the original PSU brick was replaced by a Targus 180w.

If I could shoe horn in a QX9300 I wouldn't even have a passing thought of selling it though..............

Is that a 2886 series, 2887, or 28xx later generation? I know I have a 2887. There were subtle changes in the heat sink and thermal compounds between the models. I had no idea they lead to some overheating issues...

Anyway, I love my P7811FX. Did you consider just getting a netbook to complement the big gaming laptop? I recently picked up an Asus 1201N that has the ability to game on the go. It seems to be a nice travel companion, although the Gateway is still king of LAN parties. (It is fun to bring the Asus and embarrass friends with bigger and less capable machines  )
