    Hi,
I have posted 3 times to this board as of yesterday. This is a great board.1st time I have ever posted on a board. I came here to review 2 notebooks purchased a week ago.

My decision is to return them. My instincts kept telling me not to get a Gateway retail.I was taken in buy how affordable the 7000 series is,the sleek look and the incredible amount of features/specs on it.Although the M series directly from Gateway is not worth the price to me.

I have to say that I find that the basic quality of the Gateway notebooks are extremely flimsy.I don't believe that the hardware will hold up on the outside or inside. From looking at the outside there is no quality except from looking at it without touching it.I see problems already with the latch not closing well and the cover getting scratched in a second. The bottom compartments are not sealed flush with the notebook. My instincts are never wrong! Honestly they are always right. If I keep looking at the notebooks and see the incredible bright wide sleek screen and think about everything included for the price,I'm so tempted to keep them.

I was offered these as a gift from someone. The reason I have 2 is because the same one was found for $500 less than the other and is exactly the same. Identical! I'm terminally ill and computers are my lifeline. I'm on the internet 15 hours daily! My HP notebook is outdated for my needs and the screen is not the same anymore.

I have always owned Dell desktops and have been using a HP notebook for 2 1/2 years.I have never bought retail before I was offered this gift.

If anyone else has noticed simialer things or their instincts have/are telling them the same thing,Please reply!

I still feel that for the price if it is the most affordable option for you having all the features/specs it comes with ,then go for it! I still am tempted but the returns are in the process and my instincts every time I pick them up ,say no!

Everything the 7000 series comes with for the price is unbelievable. For me I know it's not right. The exterier on both already is not going to hold up. There are quite a few flaws.

I have been researching for a few months now ever since I was given a price range and offer of a gift.I can't find one for my price range up to $1800(including warranty) that offers everything the Gateway 7000 series does.Everything I choose is around $2400 with the exception of one Dell Inspiron depending on the deal of the week that brings it down to $1800 after the $500 off I just missed.

I honestly wished that the Gateway was made better. It would be one incredible deal.

    Please reply,
    Heartofgold [V][?][ :)]

I guess you should trust your observations, they're not necessarily instincts and no need to sound Jedi-like to figure if a lpatop will last or not, if you see something looks cheap and notice things are bending/flexing/shifting when they shouldn't then it's certainly a sign of things to come. If a notebook isn't constructed terribly well then it won't hold up will if you travel with it. However, if it sits on a desk all day and the lid isn't opened and closed a whole bunch then it won't matter as much. If you want a better built notebook, such as an IBM, Panasonic or Fujitsu, then you're going to pay a lot more...it's up to you to decide if that's worth your money.

I am sorry about your health. The last thing that you need to worry about is your main mode of communicating with the rest of the world.

I find HP to be a very good computer company with excellent products. The dv4000 looks promising and will serve you well. Some Dells are better than others since they are in the phase of transitioning certain models. I am not a fan of Gateway for the similar reasons that you have stated.

    My prayers are with you.

Ugh I tried responding and as I am new around here I obviously failed miserably. Long story short Go with your instincts. I used to work for Gateway and I can think of a ton of millions to return them but what it comes down to is go with your instincts.

You cannot go wrong the the Dell or the HP. I believe that the 9300 has the Pentium M which will give better battery life but if you are plugged in all day, it won't really be a factor for you.

I don't have True bright. It isn't available. I did have it on the DV 1000 which was already sent back and credited back to my American Express.

I am envious that you got the 9300. It is too heavy to carry around for practical matters. If I was using it for home use only, I would have gotten it.

I also love the 700 m but the keyboard is too small.
