cant you just remove the hard drive before shipping it? im on the verge of sending in mine also(that means no COD: MW
). Crazy spikes in gpu temp while gaming and screen artifacting on downclocking. ive about had enough.
      -

I sent mine in last week because of some weird screen artifacting and lockups with the occasional BSOD if I used any but 1 or 2 nvidia drivers. They recived it last Wednesday, and they said they will email me when the send it back. I have yet to hear anything else from them. I hope to get an email later this week.

CPU heated up to 91c playing CSS of all games.
im gonna demand a new cpu and send it in.screw this.
      -

Where do you send it for repairs. Cause I'm sure my warranty is voided when i Under Volted CPU.
 -
I doubt very seriously any gateway tehc is even going to notice you put new thermal compound on. As long as you applied it correctly and the CPU dosent look fried from lack of thermal compund your fine. Uninstall the U.V. program and put it back to stock. Gateway will never find out you undervolted. Much less should they care.
Your CPU probably isnt at fault here. It sounds like your Heatsink isnt making correct contact with your CPU. 91C is within the threshold so you CPU shouldnt have any damage, just make sure they fix the heatsink issue or fix it yourself.
There is no way they can detect undervolting, and its pretty much impossible to cause damage this way. Just uninstall your program and restore defaults. -

Good luck with that.
Both laptops I've sent in came back with worse problems.
Gateway repair is run by muppets. -

I meant GPU not CPU sorry,
      -

let's hope those Gateway "muppets" aren't as bad as this bunch of jerks:-
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-st...-snooping-into-private-files-115875-21538222/
makes me glad that i am competent enough to fix my laptop should the need ever arise. Only mobo problems will present themselves as a challenge to me! -
Well it is one in the same probably the same issue. However the GPU heatsink is quite a bit harder to reach.
 -
I belive it was already stated, but undervolting does NOT void your warrenty because there is not hardware modifications done, its all software based. Again as stated simply remove the program you use to do this, and the CPU will resume its normal voltages.
On a side note I got a email back from gateway saying that they shipped it back yesterday, and that I should have it by Thursday. So I will be sure to update whether or not they actually fixed my issue. -

yea but the gpu artifacts the screen when it downclocks its self also(turning off powermizer is the fix). Its not even 2 or 3 months old so im not going to put up with it anymore.so crazy spikes in temp and artifacting is why i sending it in this week,
 -

Well I emailed Gateway to ask them the following...
And I got the following in response...
So they can look at the "Device Manager" and it can tell them if there are "Bangs" in the display adapter and its controller? -

In other words it sounds like they don't have proper technical skills. [sarcasm]That's just great.[/sarcasm]
Oh and memtest isn't definitive. I've had it pass defective memory before. I'm going to have to remember to keep a spare drive on hand to send back with the system that will have a stock OS install in it since apparently they will replace drives at will. -

Yeah, I had a feeling that they would replace the hard drive anyways as that seems to be the SOP no matter what company it is. Tracking updated and they say I should have it tomorrow, so fingers crossed.
 -

Well I buy my own drives but if I have to I can mirror it over to another 320GB I have around. In fact both drive slots are occupied. Do you think they even check to see what the drive is and if it was customer upgraded (they allow for it)?
 -

No idea, Im glad that I backed everything up and reformatted before I sent it in. But I would hope they would be sure to not "lose" your add on hard drive.
 -

If I ever have to send it in then I'll be sure to drop in a second "spare" drive and see what happens (it will probably be the 20gb lying around).
 -

Well got it back today and I have to send it right back because they did not replace the motherboard like I had asked, they flashed the bios and replaced the hard drive.
So I sent them a "strongly worded" email telling them to fix it the right way this time. -

Like I said before I wouldn't bother.
They will probably replace the motherboard with a used unit that may have even more problems, as they did with me. -

Not bother? Well what else is he suppose to do? Bend over and get what he gets?
I have no doubt they will do what you are suggesting, I don't put ANYTHING past Gateway/Acer, but rolling over isn't going to help either. -

Yeah I dont plan on it, they can give me a new mobo or a new 7805, tho if they are nice, ill take one of the new 7809s.
 -

Well still dealing with Gateway, they are trying to get me to use a video driver that I already told them works fine for me, but I want to be able to use the latest Nvidia drivers for my GPU. I sent them another email saying that according to THEIR Warranty, they can eather replace the motherboard or replace the entire laptop. I would not mind getting a 7807u or a 7809u since the 7805u is not listed on their website anymore.
Gateway had an MSRP of $1,299.99 for the 7805u, so yeah, I'd settle for a 7809. -

i wanted to ask what company do you guys use to ship it and also what should i use for packaging i havent sent it in yet i havent even backed up half my info i have like 60gb left too transfer to my other computer because from what i see here all they really will do is probably replace my motherboard and replace my hard drive..
 -

I used UPS the first time, and FedEx the second since Gateway paid for it the second time.
Now I am trying to get them to replace the laptop all together because they calim they replaced the mobo the second time I sent it in, but it still has the exact same issues.
If the motherboard dident cost $400+ id replace it myself.
