Well I was in BB today and picked up their new holiday gaming guide and what should I find. Under PC's they have displayed and listed a new Gateway FX 6800 -01e Desktop sporting an Intel Core i7 920 processer and Radeon HD4850 GPU.

Now how does this possibly relate to us laptop folks? Well considering BB currently doesn't carry any FX desktop models and this is not a model mentioned on Gateways website and considering it sports a processer that is not even due out until November says that BB is not turning its back on the Gateway FX line as a retailer. They are bringing in the newest version.

This gives great hope that a new FX laptop could very well be around the corner and heading back into BB's inventory. While it may not be the 7811 or the trumped up version that NewEgg is sporting, it could very well include all those things that made the prior FX models a wow at a price that usually amazes.

    Here is to hope.

The only thing to consider is that the desktop is moving to an ATI based video card, which leads us to believe the laptop could be doing the same. At least that's the way Best Buy tends to do things.

That's great. It simply means if I have any trouble with my 7811, I can go to BB store for another one. :D

The Best Buy models seem to always have slightly lower CPUs and LCD resolutions for disproprtionally good discount - in other words 90% of us are better off saving a few bucks and buying at BB.

Now if they would just consistently carry FX notebook in Canada...

3 years? My Thinkpad R40 is still alive and kicking, and it'll be 6 years old in January. And while I can't play Crysis on it. I CAN run Nikon Capture NX2, Photoshop, Office, and tons of other stuff that I use every day. I expect the 7811 to be useable at least that long, even if it won't run Crysis 6 or Windows Prima Vera Alfredo 2014.

Wow, gateway is impressing me yet again. Nehelem will barely be realeased this xmas and already it looks like they are going to be releaseing a desktop featuring it... wow

And switching to the ATI cards is a big deal as well... very interesting.

I'm not upgrading my 6860 until at least the nehelem die shrink though.

No FSB to screw with and mobile extreme quad cores are just nice sounding. And now with a possible switch to ATI for the GPU it might get really interesting for the FX lappies really soon

    I'm all for this :D

Now i have to wonder when SLI/Crossfire are going to become the norm and gateway starts offering that for 2000 and below :)

From what I've heard and read online, the i7 chip should be coming out around mid November or before the end of November, 2008. Just in time for Black Friday...

    Pricing:
Intel's pricing, however, merits special attention. Three Core i7's will be introduced at launch: the 2.66-GHz Core i7-920, priced at $284; the 2.93-GHz Core i7-940, priced at $562; and the 3.20-GHz Core i7 Extreme 965, priced at $999.
