Hello,
this is my first time posting here and i have a question
should i still buy the p-6831fx because are there any new notebooks in this series coming out soon? does it still pay to buy it?
i am going to be more in to racing sims like gt legends gtr2 lfs and test drive unlimited (not a sim but still fun) and counterstrike, crisis i am going to run it mostly on a 26 inch samsung lcd hdtv with a vga pc input (if u need the model number i will post it later) should i plug it with hdmi instead on vga because i think it outputs audio and video so whatever works better. will there be a performence decrese when running on the 26 inch samsung over the laptop. what will the framrates be on the tv with the games i listed at medium high on crisis and other games. the 26 inch is not a 1080p (obviously) so maybe i will run it at 720p resolution.
thanks

thanks but will they be the same price because bestbuy has a sale for 1200 and i dont really want to spend more then that it has the 8800 512 and other goodies can you show me some of the models that are coming out?
-
I really hope that's not actually your email address.
-
SPAM TIME!!! Just kidding. For that price, I would buy.
Technology will never stop for you. -
Buy it now and enjoy it right now! There is always something newer, better around the corner. Plus, it's one heck of a deal.
It's actually neat to have the same videocard in both my desktop and laptop. -

but is it a smart buy i mean because i dont want to buy a 1250 dollar system and then a month later come out with a awesome machine for 1200 with a 2.0 ghz core 2 duo if u know what im saying (ithink this one has a 1.8) and also can you guys please answer my question to my gaming thanks
-
For LFS, a P-6831FX will handle it for quite a while. Even by the time Patch Z or even S3 comes out, you'll still play with decent FPS and graphics settings. At most, this laptop will need a CPU upgrade, as you know how LFS is more CPU dependant than GPU dependant.
Take that into consideration when buying a laptop. -
I ordered mine on friday knowing full well that faster systems will be coming out. The fact of the matter is I do want it now and it will be a great system for quite a while. This system is very upgradeable so if it begins to get a bit sluggish then drop in a T9300 and bam you're back in the action. for 400 (todays dollars) this system can nearly be upgraded to close to the highest end single gpu systems out there. Don't stress yourself out over it. When the new stuff comes out u can look at upgrading your current lappy or selling it and coming up with the difference to get the new stuff, or if you must wait then do it. I ususally sell my old gear and pay the difference for the new stuff. Sure it costs me but this is what I'm into.

And the 1.67 came out in 2007, the 1.83 processor came out in 2008, they are still perfectly fine for most gaming purposes.
There will always be new technology coming out. Buy the laptop when you need it. If you're fine without it, you can keep waiting. -
This is a killer laptop for $1200. Lots of advice says wait, something better is always coming out, wait! FCOL, if ya want it, get it. The key to this system is the 8800GTS, period. Not the screen, CPU or whatever you are waiting for down the road
The screen is fine for gaming, if I had a 8880GTX, then I might go for a WUXGA screen. But if you want it, wait, pay Gateway $2,000 and you can have it now...
Here are are my Crysis benchmarks between the stock CPU and the T9300.
If we are just talking GPU limited games, the T5450 is fine..if you get the 1.8Ghz upgrade, good.

Depends on if you need it right now or not. Personally i choose to wait because i'm graduating high school this summer and is currently very busy these days (school+work). I'll order one of these lappys at the end of my school year and get it at the beginning of my summer vocation. i just hope there would still be some left in stock. and i'm open to new models as well. the new P-172 S seems interesting too.

Test Drive Unlimited should be playable at high settings in game too. I have a desktop with a X1950XT that gets decent frames, and I also use a G25 (which is said to cut down on some FPS for some odd reason).
-

yes if I buy this laptop I will buy the g25 same day lol that is one of the reasons why i want a gaming laptop well there is also counter strike and crisis that i really want to play so what do u think how test drive will perform on high settngs and hdmi to my 26 inch 720p samsung hdtv

Offtopic: how much thickness on a desk can a g25 clamp to
-
T7500 2.2Ghz/4M/800
3GB 667
8800GTS 512MB
250GB HDD
17" screen (anything)
Includes one top tier game (UT3, COD4, etc) (many users got this deal)
I will be VERY impressed.
BTW - 1440x900 is perfectly fine, and the screen is not hard to upgrade should you want to. I would much rather run a game at this res natively, than at 1900x1200 downscaled; keep in mind future games will be more demanding, and you will have to lower res.
I do like how the great specs of this comp ticks off fanboys.. quite amusing...especially alienware users They will do anything to justify their overpriced (and ugly!) purchase.. -
[email protected] Notebook Enthusiast
yes i agree the alienware is pretty ugly so should i get the 6860 or something like that (the upgraded 6831) which is coming out very soon at my store. so do you think i will be happy with my purchase with the games i want to play listed in the first post at my requirements
thanks,
sorry for all the questions lol -
Hey - some people may laugh, but $1200-1300 is still alot of money ( i know, I am a college student!); there is no harm in wanting to be sure about your purchase.
Given that the 6860 is just around the bend, wait for it. I have been REALLY happy with my laptop, even without the CPU upgrade. The better CPU and bigger HDD are a nice bonus.. -
A G25 can clamp onto a 1 and 1/4" thick board. I get 30+ FPS with a X1950XT with 2xAA and 16xAF at 1650x1080 and the rest on high. I've heard rumors of G25's cutting FPS in half on TDU, so that may be why I only get 30-50 FPS. You should have no problem with a 8800M GTS, even with the slower CPU.
-
[email protected] Notebook Enthusiast
thanks I think I'm buying the 6860 but one more question is the laptop in looks wise nice and the build quality is it good
-
Well, looks is of course subjective. I think it is a great looking laptop, as have other people. The build quality isn't bad, but does have a bit more plastic than other laptops. Then again, be realistic - for the features you are getting, some compromises had to be made somewhere.
-
[email protected] Notebook Enthusiast
well you are right an 8800m gts for 1200 is a steal but if its sturdy i dont care
so this will play all games out except crisis on high?
-
8800gts - heres a link to some in game screenshots and benchmark.crisis included!
-
[email protected] Notebook Enthusiast
thanks for the link i think i will be getting the g25 and the 6860 and also the g25 really cuts frames in test drive? By how much I want to make it playable lol
-
keep in mind that the ones on the benchmarks have the 1.6 proc. if you really are getting the 6860 expect to get couple fps more but not that significant.
-
Don't worry about the FPS in Test Drive Unlimited at all, even though it is said that G25's lower FPS. You won't be getting bad FPS at all.
With the looks, I love the orange trim. Orange is one of my favorite colors, so I have no complaints there.
The only complaint is with how the plastic flexes a bit. Behind the touchpad, the plastic does flex a bit. So does the multimedia buttons at the top. Still, I don't regret this at all. -

thanks guys for clearing it up
+2
Should i buy it?
