I would go with gateway, especially if you can find a wuxga one.

    Gateway pros:
    More upgradeable options for CPU.
    A bit faster RAM.
    Price.
    Larger FSB.

    Sager pros:
    Built better.
    Blu-ray.

This is personal opinion but Sager's cramped keyboard is annoying to me. Plus the fan noise on the sager is a negative. Gateway may have its own issues but at least you can take it to your locak bestbuy store to get it checked out.

My buddy has the sager NP5793 and once he played with my 7805u he wished he had gotten mine..

The blu ray is very nice, but would I ever use it? No.. would others, obviously yes.. But you can always upgrade to one. The sager is build very solid (as others have stated), but to me, its just not worth it. The bang for the buck is def the gateway.

I've never had a gateway, so I can't really touch on reliability, but so far, so good. I will say, from the couple hours I spent w/ both, the fan noise is equally, if not worse on the gateway.

You can upgrade the screen and the drive so thats kind of a moot point

That an the gateway really is built pretty well...does it have all the bells and whistles? no. Is it perfect? no

but the differences are very small and its sooo cheap. You can spend the money you save to upgrade and make a laptop that can kick that Sager's .

So I got confused and thought you were saying I posted something about those two somewhere in my post :p

i have the 7811 and a friend of mine has the sager. it is the most boring looking laptop ive seen, ever. pictures won't tell u that. but as others have have said, it is solidly built and they paid extra attention to the cooling. the back is a good half inch thicker then the gateway and they probably used double the amount of heat pipes, vents etc.
comes down to preferences for u then. my friend was also torn between the two but went with the sager because of all the problems he heard about gateway's overheating. i myself went through the trouble of tracking down the 2888 serial gateway.

it now I kind of want a sager 15'...I haven't taken any of the stickers off and the seal on the box is still intact. I dunno it just seems so much nicer. A smaller laptop with an upgradable video card.

well this one has no heating problems or lockups at all, yet *knock on wood*. i don't know if i had gotten the older 2887 serial if i would have had problems but whatever symptoms which have been discussed on these boards for each particular model have been pretty much spot on. for instance, i have the same light leakage (white blotch) that many users of the later 7811 models and 7805 complain about. not that its big deal for me.

For gaming go with Gateway. The NP5793 uses an older motherboard upgradeable only to 2.5Ghz. That's going put you a foot behind the starting line in the gaming world. The only reason I would consider the Sager is it's full resolution HD screen. But if you can find that same screen on the Gateway, then you've have the best of both. Like maybe in the p7801u :D

I wouldn't say sager is better quality/built/design, but it does have better upgrade options.

Edit: Referring to wrong sager...sorry, not the model mentioned in this thread.

Haha, yeah, the NP9262 is a absolute beast. But the NP5793 is quite old and has the Santa Rosa chipset and what not. Not very upgradable at all.

Most notebooks have some leakage viewable on black screens.
Not many 7805u's have any heat issues at all.

Ugh, just looking at the specs, the 7805 for sure. No contest. But does the 7805 have the same TZS0 and heat issues as the 7811? Actually, even with that, I would still get the Gateway. And hell yes the NP9262 is a beast. Lot's of ability to customize too. Can it actually run 2 9800m gtxs, or is that something else? That would be crazy.

    It runs 9800M GTX's in SLI. :)
And the P7805u seems to handle the heat well, mine stays cool :)
