The eSATA port is NOT working on my FX-7811 and I'm wondering if it's because the hard drives are configured as RAID 0? My external SATA drive and cable are definitely working (tested on another machine), I've trimmed back some of the plastic on one connector to insure it's seating fully in the port, but still no joy.

There is some interaction at the port as the laptop will not boot with the eSATA drive attached (Windows 7). So I'm wondering if it's the RAID setup that is causing the problem? Enabling RAID is a SATA function in the BIOS... and that's about all I know about it.

    It honestly shouldn't matter.

Have you reinstalled the eSATA drivers after you set up your RAID?

I know i haven't reinstalled mine or my modem since my last install because i so rarely use them i just didn't load the drivers.

I just upgraded to Windows 7 two days ago; wouldn't the drivers have been included in the install package? Or are they Gateway-specific?

If you upgraded from Vista then your drivers should still be the same... if you did a fresh install then you might need to get the esata driver from gateways site

Well Gateway's online support is an exercise in frustration. After much digging I found 2 eSATA drivers for Vista 64, one for a model I've never heard of and the other for the 68xx series. Tried those, but they will not load. It seems Gateway has not updated the 7811 page since the day it was first posted; not a single file is later than 9/15/2008 and a SATA driver is not among them.

Anyway if you have a minute would you look to see where your SATA port is listed in Device Manager and report any info on the driver you can find there?

    Thanks!

Thanks, I will check those out and see if they help. I may just have a bad port, or a bad connection to it, anyway; it's good to know it should be working with RAID though.
