    ..ya I looked at that.

But none of those stores carry the P-172S FX.....how the heck am I going to go about buying that exact model, when I live in Canada?

@dtwn83: Ebay only has the p-6831 fx model and some 6860's..... Which is better/newer? (<--not really directed at dtwn83....but everyone)

    6860's are newer.
Difference = 4GB of RAM vs 3 GB of RAM
    1.83 Ghz vs 1.67 Ghz
    320GB vs 250 GB

    That's about it I think.

Some of the newer 6831's have 4GB of RAM as well as the 1.83 Ghz processor.

If you're close to the border, you can probably drive over and see if you can pick one up.

    that really sucks,
this sort of forces me to wait for the Sager NP5793's price to drop, and be stuck with a 8700gt instead of a 8800gts :(
I'm basically waiting for Montevina to come out, I heard new Hardware = Price drops on old hardware ;)

best buy has the 15.4" P series laptop. Other than that, you'll have to get the 6860 across the border like i did and expect to pay a nice hefty gst/pst hit if your coming back to ontario, althought was worth it to me, i love this laptop.

you wont be able to get the 171 unless you have an american cc and address you can ship it to.

Apparently Gateway is having a stock shortage of the FX notebooks, mainly because of a large fire at a major battery supplier's factory. If Best Buy is planning to release the P-6860FX in Canada then that might be why it's taking so long. If you really want to get one of the P-172 FX series though then without a US credit card and shipping address you are SOL.

I also know though that NCIX has been in talks for months with Gateway about carrying some of the FX line of notebooks. They haven't said exactly which models yet though, but it's been hinted that the P-6860 FX or the P-172S FX would be one of them. Apparently they were very close to a final agreement until they started talking with Gateway's new owner (Acer), then the stock shortage hit and since then it's been taking longer than they expected. I would really love to be able to get one of these notebooks through them rather than Best Buy so hopefully they will announce something soon, but with all the hold ups they have been playing it by ear and it may take a little while longer.

some of you are lucky for BB and living in US and Canada,
What about us in Uk or others in Europe, I must ask to a friend to order this laptop in US and post it to me in UK.
I just can wait to have in hands p-172S fx so i can make a special review for it
I thing everyone is happy with gateway prices/performance. on one can bet gateway in this category (my opinion).

I JUST CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY GATEWAY IS DOING THIS, SELING LAPS ONLY IN US
I THIGN THEY CAN SELL LOTS OF LAPS IN EUROPE TOO.

There was 1-2 shipments of P-6831FX that shipped to Canada BB's (by mistake?) when it first came out. That was about the only chance to get one in Canada without a 3rd party in the deal.
