    and I have a question.

I Frequently start my laptop over from scratch just to have a nice clean machine when I start some new games. Being a big fan in the XP days of nlite I'm testing out vlite.

Normally my (nonSP1) Vista DVD will install Vista without asking for the key on the bottom of my laptop and it is activated automatically. With my vlite (slipstreamed just SP1 so far) it no longer is activated. I've never had to use my key before and I'm honestly a little nervous about it.

Anyone use vlite to slipstream sp1 as well as hotfixes, drivers, etc. and used their key? No issues to worry about?

why would you be worried ? its your key.

    off topic.
you use the x86 vista supplied? as i see you upgraded to 4gb
did you notice any improvement after the upgrade (little skeptic about whether i should get the extra 1gb and go x64)

    thanks.

Correct. The only thing I've upgraded so far is the amount of memory. No - no improvement what so ever. Maybe if I went x64 but I don't own an official copy of x64.

As to being worried about anything - since I do refresh my machine once every several months I was worried about the key getting invalidated (remembering horror stories early in the life if Vista once it was released).

BTW - the vlite program is working out well. I used the windows update downloader, grabbed all of the updates, used vlite to slipstream SP1, started vlite over again and slipstreamed all of the hotfixes, Intel's chipset, MSM, and wireless driver and it works well. Except for the 'automatic' activation thing but I'll plug in my key and see what happens.

the key wont get invalidated no matter how many times you use it.
only if you change your hardware...
i still use my oem install.

as to x64 vista, if you can get your hands on a copy of vista x64 Home premium your cd key will work just fine. been entertaining the idea for some time now...

There are a few hardware changes you can make before MS deems the machine to be different than the original install. The last 2 updates I want to make are 2 7200 drives in RAID 0 and a t8300 processor (although for the same newegg price I could get the x7800 off ebay like you have). I am pretty sure I can still make those changes before the key gets invalidated.

    the x7800 is highly recommended.
i believe your key will endure through these upgrades (just guessing).
