And I don't mean that in a negative way by any means, I'm very excited.
I was just getting very annoyed waiting...I've been looking at a laptop for the past year, and I need it by August for school.
Previously I was looking at the Sager NP8860 which looks like an awesome laptop, however it was out of my budget. My parents agreed to spend around 1100 dollars for my laptop, and I was thinking about paying the difference for the NP8860, but after hearing my dad's advice I started to agree it would be better to save my money and be happy with this laptop.
While surely the NP8860 is a better machine, truthfully I don't think the difference is THAT huge. It has been confirmed that the 9800M GT is just a little bit better than the 8800M GTX, so considering that as well as the fact that DDR3 memory only gives small performance gains, I believe this laptop will still be in the same ball park.
Any way, I'd thought I'd post this because I've been hovering around this boards a lot lately and wanted to share the news.
Ah, and I got it for 1250 for anyone trying to do a little haggling, I tried going for 1200 but the salesman said that it wasn't possible (after asking a manager).

That machine looks great. The 8800 is the card I want in a laptop. I had a 8600 but it was just a little under what I expected in a laptop video card. Of course now I'm a little power crazy and am thinking of going all out on a desktop with dual video cards and quad core for college since I'm fed up with the laptop game.

Thanks, yeah unfortunately there aren't that many options out there for laptops...gaming laptops are a very small niche if you will, and as you said most gamers just get desktops because they are cheaper.
I was actually thinking about building a cheap gaming desktop and then buying a cheap laptop however that would be just way too much to bring to a college dorm...
And my desktop PISSES me off...I really don't know what's wrong with it. I actually took the computer my dad's old computer and got a mobo/cpu combo for cheap on newegg, and then bought a decent gpu. For some reason though it freezes several times a day on average...once it gets later in the night it freezes quite frequently and it gets really hot (seriously it idles over 40 Celsius....and that's idling) -
it is NP8660 btw.

Oh oops, yeah I was wondering if that was right when I was typing it.
So finally just bit the freakin bullet and ordered a P-173x-FX
