Tried to look up current prices on the 7426GX the other day. It's no longer available at J&R. Gone from Circuit City. "Sold out" at Best Buy online and not available at any BB stores near me.

Has there been a lo-pro recall, maybe due to hinge or other hw issues?

Seems way too soon for another product update, but then the 7422 seemed to be on the market for only about five minutes...

Hey there, as a lucky one who actually bought a 7426GX, all i can say is this: This machine was most likely mislabled or put on sale by mistake. I only paid $1,399 at my local BestBuy for it (best darned runaway deal EVER) and at every review site i have been to, it's always the same thing: WTF!! HOW can they sell this machine with ALL this for only XXX price.

And as for the hinges, it is NOT an issue and only cosmetic as the hinges are metal :)

Furthermore this particular model is actually manufactured by Arima (the very company that makes the VooDoo Envy)

    Goodluck in your search. Cheers!!

    Gateway 7426GX
    AMD Athlon 64, 3700+ Processor
    1 Gig DDR Ram
    100 Gig HDD
    Dual Layer Multiformat +/- DVD/CDRW
    6x Digital Media Card reader
    15.4" Ultrabright screen
    ATI Mobility 9600 w/Omega drivers.
    1x Firewire, 4x USB 2.0
...And the kitchen sink someplace too :)

I ended up buying mine off eBay. I missed the sale at Best Buy when the notebook was I think $1399. Off eBay, I paid $1299 plus about $40 to ship it. Everything was just as it was if you bought it at Best Buy, sealed and all. The notebook works perfectly! Shipping was fast too!

The vendor I bought it from had 2 more available I think, so if you are interested, you can PM me and I'll give you the eBay ID.

Hey Beammeup, I have had mine now for about a month and all i can say is WOW!!! This is one wicked machine! I love it and have had no probs at all with ANY hinge troubles etc, i read on some other forums that the older ones were actually manufactured by quanta i think, but these newer ones are Arima made (get SiSoft Sandra Lite download and do a check on the agp/pci-e tests and it will pop up as to who made your particular model, though if you just got it, rest assured it is a Arima made notebook) Cheers!!! And welcome to the few, the rare and the hellacious deal that WAS the Gateway 7426GX :)

As of right now, the BB website no longer lists the 7426 at all.

According to this: http://tinyurl.com/8ze8x BB is getting out of the AMD business in favor of (surprise!) Intel-based notebooks. :-(

To those who have suggested ebay as an alternative... The price is right, but since Best Buy, not GW, was the one supplying the warranty...

Actually, according to that URL there are less AMD systems out than there were earlier in the year. Nothing there indicates that BBY is getting out of selling AMD systems.

Also, if you look at the Best Buy Canada website, they have a new Gateway model listed - the 7510GX. It looks like Gateway is moving to the 75xx series now.

Wow, the 7510GX moves up to the x600 GPU...I'd expected them to go to the x300 when they switched to PCI-E, since the x300 is closer to the MR9600, while the x600 is similar to the MR9700. Very commendable, looks like a winning machine.

Haha. I'm likeing the 1,000GB HD listed under product features. So from what I just looked at, Is there much of a difference between that and the 7426GX besides the graphics card? Speaking of the graphics, do you have any information on it? I can't remember what the fsb is on the 7426, so maybe that is another difference.. It otherwise seems very identical.

    Thanks for the url btw.
