So, I guess Gateway's abandoned the P-series, eh?

I've got myself a P-7915u and I love it. Shortly afterwards I noticed that you couldn't find them anywhere anymore and the 79xx series is no longer listed on Gateway.com.

So, what happened? I guess Gateway didn't sell as many as they thought they would? It's sad because I didn't spend much money and got a whole lot of laptop.

I've been wanting to ask what the next good gaming laptop was going to be, but as you said I've noticed nothing special in recent laptop lines.

I haven't been following laptops much since getting my 6860FX so maybe there are some good recent rigs out there???

I had written a longer post, but figured I could cut it down to...
    1) Console gaming
    2) Netbooks
    3) iPhones, iPads and Androids... oh my.

oops, forgot to explain... ^^ the reasons for the decline of the gaming Laptop/Desktop. ;)

You left out Notebooks. I have been looking at the Sager notebooks. Pricey, but the seem to have the power to do video editing and gaming.

There are a few gaming machines. Sager/Clevo is the high end. AW, G73 and a few other off shoots for semi-budget machines are out there. When ever you what is the next great thing it becomes yesterdays news rather rapidly...

9800m GTS so still in the P78xx range, but I did find some with 260m placing it in the P79xx class.

Sad. I got one myself and its still running beautifully! I may need to upgrade a few bits, but its a lineup I would've loved to see go on for a while!

DTR laptops are going to likely go the way of the dodo in exchange for "hybrid" laptops with media docks like the new hideously-priced Sony Vaio. People don't want heavy anymore except for niche applications.
