Technically I was looking for some rubber feet to allow more passive airflow (instead of USB powered coolers) and I came across two products that look interesting.. Just wondering if anyone had thought about buying one of the two:

Xpad (Non-slip Laptop Cooler & Heatshield)

Notebook Cooling Mobilexntbook Stand

I haven't seen either of those particular stands before, but both look pretty nifty. Thanks for the info.
-
I'm considering buying the Xpad.. Just curious if the pads cover up anything important on the P-7811fx.. I'm at work so I can't check.. Lol..
-
I'm pretty sure the bottom is the same as the 6860FX and if so, it looks as if one of the pads may partially cover the GPU intake slot.
EDIT: Looks like it may partially cover the CPU intake as well. But it's hard to tell by looking at the pics only. -
Hmm..
Choices.. choices.. I wonder about Amazon's return policy lol..
Too bad I just can't find rubber feet to extend the height with more passive airflow. -
7 million 3dmark06 dook? wth? i just got 6m!!
-
example:
Although if you get them too high, its going to look mighty funny. -
looks really nice-it might be useful for notebooks like MBP
-
Lol.. yeh, Just thinking about my laptop with those.. Kinda looks like a badass side table =X
I think I'm going to order the second stand.. It's very compact and has great reviews.. I wonder how high it raises it? Looks like one and a half inch.. -
I have that Targus notebook stand that olds out into an X and collapses into a stick about the length of a fist and a half, but much slimmer, and love it. It is surprisingly very solid, yet you can fold it up and stick it in a pocket or small part of your backpack/laptop case easily. Also it's very light. Works good on 15 or 17 inchers. Price seems way too high for what it is until you consider the alternatives, and how many negative reviews most of them get. Simply lifting the notebook the half inch to inch off the desk does wonders for cooling.
Also the X thingy doesn't block any vents because it's ends are too small to do that, and if you don't like how it's contacting your laptop's case, you can make the X wider or narrower leg by leg. -
So which one would you suggest Blarg?

How about Cool Feet?

*EDIT* I realize my first post is to mention a product... trust me, I just thought I could help. And I actually picked up a new P7811-FX this past Sunday! -
Biff, its cool. As long as you're not spamming the board with a bunch of useless advertisements. Those feet you mention seem like great little devices, albeit a bit tall. However, the fact that they can be removed is definitely a plus and kind of negates the "tall-look" factor.

I love this endorsement ...

Lol
I do believe those things look a wee-bit silly.

(as well as a finger print magnate) -
I don't know..

She seems to enjoy them. -
I find that PC game boxes work great for keeping the notebook cool, but I guess that's just me.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahha..

Is the Targus one sturdy enough for the P-7811FX and extreme gaming? I tend to go crazy when I get on a 20+ killstreak.
-
Yeah, I lean my wrists on the area right before the keyboard very heavily, enough to make most keyboards that have anything going on down there creak under the pressure. I also type well over 100 wpm and so loud and hard that people can hear it way down the hall and say I must be very angry! The Targus X thingy is rock solid when I do my thang.
What really surprises me the most is that I always use a lapdesk at home, and sometimes it's tilted WAY off the horizontal, but the Targus doesn't slip either against my very smooth lapdesk OR against the computer. There's really not a lot of it touching my laptop and it only does it in four places, but I guess the material just has a ton of traction. It's borderline spooky/gravity-defying.
Your question is what made me think I would try the thing for 5 or 10 minutes and completely hate it, so I was really surprised when I didn't. And I thought I would feel like an idiot paying 30 bucks for what's really just a few thin collapsible aluminum sticks with rubber tips on the ends, and I did until I wound up liking the thing and comparing it to the 50-ish I was going to spend on a high quality active cooling platform instead. -
In terms of passive stands, I really haven't seen any better than the Rolodex/Rubbermaid (yes, I said Rolodex/Rubbermaid) one. It's all-steel and the entire bottom is mesh ventilated.
Best of all, it's cheap. You can get them at Sam's Club and Walmart, as well as for 14 bucks at Amazon: Link -
That looks pretty decent. The targus thingy has a huge plus in that it is so easily portable and storable, though.
-
I thought of these:

They're like the cool feet but velcro instead of suction cups. I don't like cooling pads because in my experience they don't work well enough to justify lugging around all that extra weight. -
Those look pretty good too. The velcro is a great idea so you can still stick your laptop in your bag easily. I wonder how stable they are, being round and all, though.
So.. I was looking for ways to cool your laptop.. and came across these products..
