My p-7811 is dying. Again. Its overheating far too much (I have had to lower L4D settings from High 1920x1200 to Medium 1280x768) And I don't want it anymore... Its too big/heavy for carrying it in the university and now that I have done a lot of research (Unlike looking at the Best Buy reviews on the laptop like I did before I bought it...), an Alienware or Clevo 15" would do me much better.
So the question is; if I fail at getting a refund from Gateway (which seems most likely), and get a replacement instead, would anybody buy it? If so, at what price?

Depends on what the replacement is and at what price. Also the resolution of the screen if its the P7805u. I wouldn't see why you wouldn't get at least 1000$ on ebay or selling it directly to somebody on NBR marketplace. Of course, it depends on the model BB gives you. Just don't get another 7811..... if BB offers it.

get a replacement and then sell that off and pickup something else in the 15 inch range.

But I'd have to deal with Gateway first (D: ) in order to get a full replacement, or something close to it. Its a P-7811 FX, bought on september... the first ones to come around
1200p and 200gb HD.

There's a really good chance that the reason it's overheating a lot is that there's a caked up mess behind the heatsink for the gpu. It's not easily accessed, but it seems to suck a lot of dirt in there.

why would someone wanna buy a lemon? Have you sent it into Gateway to have them "fix" it or Best Buy where you bought it? I have been very happy with this notebook, no over heating or anything of the sorts, just have issues overclocking which is no biggie, the GPU is good so plays all the game on high just fine. It is well worth the price i paid for it. =) This one should keep me happy for a few years and its upgradeable, think I might pick a CPU in the near future when the prices drop.

Are you selling the replacement you receive from Gateway?
If you are, then consider me in since I'm looking to buy a 7811 FX for under $950. -
. BUT, I dont have the replacement, it was just hypothetical. IF I'm succesful at getting a replacement from Gateway, then that's what I would do. I needed to get the question answered so that it would stop ringing in my head
So... Would any of you buy a replacement laptop?
