1. When will Gateway release a newer driver than version 7.15.11.6746? And what does "Godzilla Discrete" mean? You see this when you are installing the driver from the Recovery Center DVD.
2. What is the "Intel WLAN Driver V11.1.1.22 for Godzilla - 32bit"? And again, what is this Godzilla that I keep seeing?
3. What is the "eSATA Driver V1.5.18.6 - Godzilla"? How is that different than the "Intel(R) 82801FR SATA AHCI Controller"?
4. I installed all of the drivers from the Recovery Center, except for the Modem driver, but my Device Manager still shows "Network Controller" and "Unknown Device" with yellow exclamation marks.
5. What is "Silicon Image's Psuedo Processor Device"? A message from my taskbar popped up and told me that software was just installed for it.
6. In the Application recovery section, what is "KB929762 - 1394 Device hot plug update"? Do I need this?
7. What is "February 2007 Critical Update for Vista 32 bit - Pri89"? And do I need this also? Is this installed by Windows Updates?
8. What is "HotStart Button Enabler for Vista"?
9. Where is the wireless card driver? I can't seem to be able to connect to my wireless router. I think the driver is missing from the Recovery Center.

2. i think is for the wireless card
4. i don't know, try installing the last one, mine is fine
6. looks like a windows update but i might be wrong
8. that enable the hot start button for media center. it's the button with arrow next to the media buttons.
9. try the wlan driver, and make sure your wireless switch is on. -
Wow, lots of questions.
1. Don't know, just download from 3dguru.com.
2. Network card driver (Lan) as for Godzilla who cares, its probably where gateway sources its drivers from.
3. Either one works, use the Intel driver
4. You should install your modem driver thats why there is a yellow exclamation mark.
5. I believe that is for the media buttons at the top of your keyboard.
6. That is for your fire wire socket on the right side of your laptop.
7. Not sure *
8. Not sure, may have something to do with wakeup after sleep.*
9. The wireless card driver is on your recovery disk, or you can download it from gateway.com/support*
* Just install all of the drivers off the recovery disk before windows update, thats why it is called a recovery disk, if you feel you can not find the right driver goto gateways support site and get the one you need. -
For #3, eSATA is for the eSATA port to the right of the laptop. The Intel SATA is to configure RAID on the laptop, the eSATA driver is probably to configure eSATA external hard drives.

Do I have to install the drivers from the Recovery Disk before running Windows Update? Because I think I installed some drivers before and some after.
Do I need Intel SATA if I'm not running RAID? How do I know if I'm running RAID?
I went to the Gateway website, and I see 2 different wireless drivers for my P-6831FX. Which one is the correct one to use, or am I supposed to install both? -
When I did a clean instal from Vista 64 to Vista 64 I had the same problem. My wireless driver was absent from the list. Just go to the gateway support drives for your computer. I personally downloaded the windows generic driver and it works fine. They have a few bugs to work out with this recovery program of their's.It's deffinitely not flawless.

Get the newest listed driver from gateway for your wireless. Don't worry too much on how you installed all your drivers now, it just makes it a whole lot easier to install all the drivers from your recovery disk first, that way windows do es not install its own drivers.
-
Ok. But I still can't seem to get wireless working. I went to the "Connect to a network" dialogue, and clicked the refresh icon, but nothing is showing up. I should see at least 4 different wireless networks.
I downloaded and installed both wireless drivers from the gateway website. -
Did you check your device manager to see if you have your wireless card driver properly installed? If so, make sure your wireless switch is turned on the right front side. Is your wireless light on below your touch pad, if so you need to trouble shoot your wireless connection, check your security on your router.
-
I figured out the wireless problem. In my device manager the "network controller" had a yellow exclamation mark. I uninstalled it and then selected "scan for hardware changes". Windows automatically searched Windows Updates and found the correct driver and installed it. I checked the version number that Windows Updates installed and it's newer than what Gateway offers on it's website.

Is the Intel SATA only if you are running RAID? How do I know if I need that?
-
I am not too sure, I would just make sure all your devices are installed properly in device manager, if they are then don't sweat it, just enjoy your new lappy.
-
I will enjoy, after it's all setup the way I like it.
I had less trouble setting up Debian GNU/Linux than I did Windows Vista on this laptop. -
Will the SetPoint software for a Logitech G5 Mouse interfere with the Synaptics software for the TouchPad?
-
No, I am running setpoint myself, it tells you it detects a touchpad and will ajust to it.
