Sound works on lappy but not headset? Same with mic.

Hello all.

I just started having a problem with my headphone jack. Today I was just playing a web browser game called Travian. I had Skype up and Ventrilo. I haven't been using a headset since like before the first of March cause I just moved to a new place.

Well, I got the blue screen of death. So it restarted and I decided to put headphones in. Just a spur in my or something. Nothing.. Now, when I go to the Playback Devices in the sound panel, I see that Headphones is set as default device. You know there are level bars there, yeah, well they move when I have sound or something playing. But I hear NOTHING from my headset. Now I moved my plugin and I hear static in my headset. I tested the headset on my iPhone, works perfect.

Now, try to use my microphone, nothing. Although it is set up correctly, it isn't set up to be used with the headset even though the headset is plugged in. It is the one next to the WEBCAM on the lid! ! So I looked at everything.. can't figure it out. So I reformated. I hated doing it but thought that would fix it. WRONG! Same goshdang thing.

Anyone help me? What is wrong and how can I fix this. I am a huge gamer and this is definately something that has to be fixed immediately.

okay, I just noticed this too.

I plug in the headset with the Sound window open. I start first with the sound plugin, nothing happens.. hear some static but then quiet... then plugin the microphone.. WOW, now it says that the headset is now the default device.. yet no sound.. is going on.. I think the headset jack is fried.

Is that what it seems like? If so, time for warranty!
