I wanted to know how come no one is opting to purchase a warranty from SquareTrade rather than bestbuy or Gateway. It's cheaper and they offer 3 or 4 year service. I'm about to buy a warranty and I've heard good things about this company and want to get others opinons.
-
I'm tempted too, if anyone has any info on them.
-
I have two squaretrade warranties. One on my phone, the other on a portable hdd I sold off. I might be checking out their warranty soon as my phone has been acting up.
-
I recall someone posting a FIFTYOFF coupon code for squaretrade last week. It definitely sweetens the deal and might be worth it.
-
Sorry but the Fiftyoff warranty is only valid for repeat customers. But you can use the code I just used for 30% off Code: TY4FN7S (promo code for use on your first SquareTrade Care Plan at www.squaretrade.com).
-
Squaretrade almost sounds too good to be true.
-
Do a search and you'll see that this is the only company who offers full coverage including accidental warranty for the Iphone.( I know that doesn't matter since this is a laptop but that shows you they sure don't mind the risk) In doing research on this company I've found the only people that have had any problems with a warranty from them was dealing with ebay items purchase that had pre-existing damage.
-
I really wish someone could share their SquareTrade warranty experience with us. They have a great reputation as far as seller rating sites go.
Here is a comment I found on one of those sites:
-
I purchased a squaretrade warranty for my M-152XL
Unfortunetly, I decided too late to purchase it, so I couldnt get the accident or the extra 4th year. But I did get 3 years coverage of $1050 for 53 bucks. -
can you get a new one if you've had the product for about 3 months? i'm thinking you would have to just get the used option.
-
wow i cant believe they let you cancel the warranty at any time and give you back a percentage of your money based on how long you've had the warranty.
-
i even called up and made sure. the rep told me, officially company policy is you can buy warranty up to 6 months after, but the computer will accept 11 months. thats for 3 years
if you want an extra 4th year, or accidental, you have to purchase within 30 days of your purchase date. -
-
Since you didn't buy the warranty for the laptop immediately, I would think they consider it under the used product category. -
-
-
Thats more or less right off their website.
What attracted me to their website was:
1) Obviously the price
2) 3-5 day repair guarantee (They said they do express shipping both ways)
3) Their willingness to just write a check to you for the value of the laptop, if it comes to that (at least according to their website) -
A tip for anyone planning on getting a squaretrade warranty for their 7811 (for first-time squaretrade users who want the 50% off that repeat users get):
1) Buy a second HDD for your 7811. You may have been planning on doing this anyway.
2) Buy a squaretrade warranty for your second HDD. I got 2 years for $20 on my $110 200GB 7200rpm seagate.
3) You'll get an email telling you you're eligible for 50% off your next warranty, so you can use that for your 7811 warranty.
While you're spending a bit more than you would if you just got the warranty as a first time user and didn't get a second HDD, you're getting more for your money by doing this "trick". Perfect for anyone who's planning on getting a second HDD anyway. -
Dont HDD come with warranties?
Thats a horrible trick
Purchase a warranty for a "phone accessory" valued at 10 bucks (I did this for my microSD card - since I bought it out of country it was literally around 10 bucks). Your warranty will be like .99 cents or .69 cents if you use the FRIENDS30 coupon. If you can ignore the guilt, you can even cancel your warranty on your phone accessory if you want and still use the FIFTYOFF coupon on a laptop warranty. Then buy a warranty for your laptop using the FIFYOFF coupon -
giving a new meaning to insurance fraud ....lol
-
jesus, how dumb can they be ?
-
You're right though that you can just get a warranty for something even cheaper and save more money, I just figured many 7811 buyers might be getting second HDDs anyway. But I don't think you can get a warranty for an "accessory," have you done this before? I don't see the option to choose something that small on the squaretrade site. -
I did mention that I purchased a "phone accessory" warranty didnt I? Mine was actually legit, I do actually have an microSD card I purchased for ~10 bucks.
Anyway, you dont even have to purchase an accessory warranty. Order any such warranty, cancel it, then you can use the FIFTYOFF coupon. Very unethical imo tho.
There is also the FRIENDS30 coupon for 30% off - works for first time buyers.
Update
HOW LONG IT LASTS:
* If your item is new and has a US manufacturer's warranty of at least 90 days ("MSP"), this Service Agreement begins the day you purchased the item and lasts for the number of years of coverage you specify at purchase time.
* If your item is refurbished and has a US manufacturer's warranty of at least 90 days ("MSP"), this Service Agreement begins upon expiration of manufacturer warranty and lasts for the number of years of coverage you specify at purchase time .
* If your item is used, refurbished, or doesn't have a US manufacturer's warranty of at least 90 days ("Other"), then the Service Agreement begins on the 61st day after item purchase and lasts for the number of years of coverage you specify at purchase time. -
-
Hmm, I may have been wrong, it may only be for refurbished items. I could have sworn it said elsewhere that this was for new items, but I guess not:

EDIT:I was right, but I'm not sure if this applies to all new products or if it was a special deal for me or my item. Click here and look at "coverage length." -
Either way, ST specializes in warranties for eBay items - that is one of their main gigs. So I wouldnt be surprised if the rules are different for eBay items.
As a side note, I was not talking about eBay items. -
Well then I'd suggest an Ebay purchase lol
-
Maybe for small purchases, but for things like a notebook, you better be sure you know who you are buying from.
-
I was talking about for the initial purchase that enables you to use the fiftyoff (newcomer ST users)
-
Ill stick with my phone accessory
