I'm considering creating a startup password on my gateway MT6750 notebook. If I do create one would I be able to remove it at a later date? or do I have to send it in to the manufacturer?

Also if someone doesn't know the startup password, could the still be able to access BIOS?

    Thanks in advanced,

    Jim

Remove it? Yes, when you go to enter a new password leave it blank.

Don't know password? You are screwed. (Oh, and first person to ask about cracking a setup password gets permanently banned)

I'm not sure with the mt6750... i know the acer that i have actually locks the BIOS and the drives with its startup password and you have to log in even for the BIOS to be accessed... its about the most secure password i've been able to find

If the BIOS is generally the same as the 6860 then yes it will actually lock the BIOS. i havent tried it out yet so i'm not sure if i could get around it or not, but it should lock the BIOS and the drives from being accessed.

    you sir are my hero!

if u do forget your password then pray than your brain will remember it.cause theres no way for you to remove or bypass it rather than typing in your old password.

Ok, good thats all i needed to know was that it is able to be removed at a later date. I'll set one up and see if it does lock bios as well.

    Thanks for the help
