I think that we need a little sticky in here that explains how Powernow works. Like a billion of the posts are about why is my cpu running at 800mhz, etc. We need a little guide that explains how to change power settings to get different results without messing with drivers, bios settings, etc. All you really need is to make sure you ahev the updated CPU driver and a little knowledge of what power management settings do. Anyone second that? Im just about tired of explaining it every time.... but its something people who arent familiar with Powernow are ALWAYS gonna have a ? about.

I agree with this. I also feel that you should do it, if you don't mind. You are very knowledgeable about these systems.. Much more than I.
Good idea -
Metamorphical Good computer user
Thats a sticky that transends Gateway. I can't think of where it could posted for all AMD (and maybe Intel) users as well.
-
Good point..
I would guess the hardware thread is the most logical -
well of course, the point tho is that one is needed. If it gets stickied in hardware id like it stickied here too...
-
If somebody writes it, then we can consider it as a sticky or maybe an article that goes on the front of the site, as long as somebody were to do a nice job of explaining this topic
-
-
Just FYI so that you could use it in your article; the AMD driver download has a readme (I think) which, among other things, actually states that you have to have either the "portable/laptop" or "max battery" option selected.
-
yeh thats what i always tell people that those two are the easiest way to utilize it

UPDATE- working on a guide to Powernow/Speedstep and how it works. Finished a lot of screenshots today and did a bit of technical shots on my machine. Will be a bit more time while I take note of some things on a turion, athlon 64 "for notebooks", and a centrino notebook. I found something rather interesting out but you will have to wait till i post the whole thing
. Athlon 64 mobile users will be puzzled...

Now I am anxious!
This guide will be great for your rep. -
hehe maybe... im putting in a lot of work and looking at a number of different notebooks. Just finished studying my sister's p-4 3.2 toshiba notebook. Found some interesting differences there too.

update: still working on this sucker but iv been busy at school and working 7 days straight so it will come soon enough....
-
Haha, wow.
I was just in the off topic section, and I started wondering about your sticky! Odd, eh?
Hope you get that done soon!
[Don't feel rushed though]
