I've done a clean install of Vista Ultimate-64 and running 3dMark06 on default (1280x854) yields a score of about 6500. I've tried using drivers 175.63, 70, 75, 80 and there hasn't been much difference.
I see other people running 6800-7000 on stock 6831's as well, so I'm not sure if there's something I'm missing![]()

More info needed what GPU do you have? CPU?
-
do you think Vista Ultimate is eating up more resources in the background than regular Vista, which could drag your benchmark down a bit
-
GPU is the 8800 GTS and CPU is the T5450 (1.67ghz)
-
hmm,it should be higher...
-
Before you run 3dmark06 make sure that you turn off all background processes. Namely the camera assistent and widgets if you have them. Background processes do have an effect on your results and the numbers you gave do looK pretty low.
Seanno -
Yeah all background processes were turned off. I loaded stock drivers and that got me to around 6600ish... I'm about to give up on 3dmark lol...
-
and you made sure that you didn't have power saver mode on?

6500 is not a bad score at all. With the drivers I've tried and everything stock I get anywhere between 6700-7100. 300-800 points in 3Dmark06 aren't really that much different since its not the greatest benchmark (I wouldn't worry unless you score below 6K) and I doubt that you would notice your computer being any slower in games than someone that scored 7200 or so (when running Crysis is 26fps that much diff than 28).
-
not sure why the hating on 3dmark06 for. it's what the rest of the world deems as a valid benchmark software. but now they have 3dmark vantage which seems to be cheat proof no matter what optimizations you try. wonder what people are going to have to say about it 6 months from now.
and as far as the scores go... the only true stock scores are off your stock driver that was installed when you purchased your computer. the minute you change that driver, you are no longer completely stock. you are now using someone else's idea of what stock should be.
as to the 6500 score jj1623, just open up nvidia control panel and set 3d settings to performance mode. and make sure your not running in windows areo mode. set it to performance mode. then bench mark your system. you should hit 7k then.
i jsut ran it just like that with my chip clocked down to 1.6 ghz and it scored 7k. when i had my 1.67 chip in, it scored 7k. although i think i ran 3 test then threw in my x9000. lol. and the fasted benched marked t5450 chip is 7288. sorry, only ones posted on the website are counted. -
i have my 6860 plugged in and on high performance, turned off background apps, and have the 175.63 driver and only got a score of 6371. thats with the res at 1280x720
EDIT: did what johnksss said and got it up to 6501, but is there anything that could be slowing it down -
lets see.... show me your scores like this....
1280x800
sm 2.0 scrore: 3274
hdr/sm 3.0 score: 3437
cpu score: 1462
better yet...take a look at this link.
http://service.futuremark.com/resultComparison.action?compareResultId=5556909&compareResultType=14
see how when the cpu is ran at the same clock speed, there is no advantage. -
Windows Aero has been turned off for a while now, so I know it's not running. Stock has finally pushed me up to 6900ish, but that's also running at 1280x800. What's wierd is that resolution is "default". I'm unable to select 1280x1024.
-
you need a 1680x1024 or 1920 x 1200 screen to get a true default of 1280x1024.
now if you hook up an external monitor. you can bench 1280x1024.
now you would start tweaking to get it to push into the 7k range.
but post your marks how i posted mine so i can see what your working with. -
in other news...i ran my x9000 at 1.2 ghz and got a whopping super high mark of.............. 5409! woooohoooo...
. who ever said the cpu had nothing to do with it is crazy!! lol but yet it still beat out my dv9740 with t9300 running over clocked at 675/450/1500 top score 3800 3dmark06. too funny.
-
i did it on 1280x800 this time and got a score of 7035.

Seems to be on par now with that comparison you sent. -
told you ya'll could do it
edit: now let the over clocking begin...
