hi! I bought this notebook on agust 2008.
it worked flawlessly until a few weeks ago. When occassionally started to make this strange 'artifacts'. At first, the were rare. Now the are quite common.
I noticed that they only appear in web with backbackgrounds.... if i minimize the window... the artifacts minimize with that windows....
However.. in some ocassions desktop is also afected.. but not in the same degree... (i changed my background from a black one to a white one and i think it worked)
However, what worries me most, is that the artifacts in one ocassion also appeared in the first screen... that one with the gateway logo where you have to press del button to enter bios...
Heat is not a problem... i constantly check temperature... and have my notebook with 2 inches of air beneath it.
i thought about drivers... but when i updated them it got worse. so i rolled back...
here it is a photo...

the artifacts are not statics... they flicker..
warranty?? in live in argentina .. so thats a little big problem :D
thanks for your help
excuse me for my grammar.. im a little bit rusty... [IMG][/IMG]

Could be the GPU, the LCD itself, or a cable/connection.
It's not a driver/software issue since you witnessed the issue in the BIOS.
First, determine if it is the GPU or not.
You can do this by hooking the laptop up to an external monitor, and seeing if the artifacts remain. If they do, it's the GPU, and therefore - the motherboard.
If they are not, then it's an LCD or a cable/connection. Much less costly to fix.
