There is NO possible way that you scored a 9.9, considering the maximum is 5.9 for each component. Nice try modifying your values manually.
-
Nice try? it was successfully modified. I think most of us knew that from the get go. At least I had hoped.
-
@deify lol relax is just a successful harmless edit ^^ great job lol made me laugh ^^
-
yeah, nice edit. btw does any one know if this will take an internal bluetooth adapter.
-
Also is there any way to increase fan speed on the T-1616
-
The results of the Windows Experience Index are stored in an XML file that you can modify to spoof your score. Who wants to show off a 2.1 system? Let’s make that a 9.9 powerhouse.
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\Performance\WinSAT\DataStore.
2. Open up the most recent file in that folder. Make sure that your account has write access to that file. If not change the file permissions.
3. Parse the file looking for the WinSPR entry. These are the items you want to edit. The maximum value you can use is 9.9.
4. Save the file and you just turned your 2.1 system into a supercomputer. -
mine is originally 3 lol i changed it to 6.9 if u know what i mean
-
Ive pinned my t-1616 at 100% cpu load for 20mins and it never got past 80c and this was on my couch with a few of the bottom vents blocked. These temps are perfectly normal and there is NO WAY this laptop will over heat on you even with the CPU maxed out non-stop.
Dont waste your money on stupid laptop cooler pads either. -
I've been checking this thread for the past few days and have read all the way through it. Thanks to everyone for all the tips. I bought my T1616 from BB a week or so ago at the $599 price. I got it to replace my other computer (Dell Inspiron 8200) that was 4-5 years old. I love it so far. I adjusted the video in the bios from 256 to 128 and saw a nice speed jump from just that. I have 2gb (2x1gb) on it's way from Newegg and I'm sure I'll see a nice jump in performance when I get them installed. I don't do any heavy gaming really, but I'm glad to hear that it should run most things even if only on the lowest setting. I travel a ton, so this will be a lot easier to travel with than my almost 8 pound big boy that was my Inspiron. Anyhoo... I was wondering if anyone has tried to get an external TV tuner card for one of these yet. Like I said, I travel a good amount and I want to get a tuner, so I can record TV while I'm on the road. Anyone know? Thanks in advance and Thanks for all the tips so far.
Oh... and anyone have a problem using the webcam with Windows live messenger? Mine works fine most of the time, but a few times after using windows live I get a message saying the drivers failed to load. I would uninstall the drivers and restart and then it would automatically reinstall the drivers and all is good for a little bit. is it just a Vista thing (vista sucks, but i'm getting used to it) or does anyone know how to fix it? Thanks -
Well, when you work at Best Buy and the Chill Pad only costs you 5 bucks, you can't pass it up
-
-
Hey, its a part time job, it pays well for retail, and I can't beat the discount, its ridic.
-
For recording TV you may want to check the Slingbox at BB you could even watch your tv from anywhere you are as long as you are connected to the internet.

Being as this is a new chipset any chance it takes advantage of DDR2-800? I'm guessing not, if thats the case is there any DDR2-667 with CL-4 out there thats been confirmed to work with the t-1616? Would the computer even automatically adjust to CL-4 or just clock the mem at CL-5 anyway? Thanks for any info.
-
says in the support that it supports 667ddr2 so im not sure about 800 but if ever the laptop wouldnt support it it would clock it down making it pretty useless.
-
CompUsa is going out of business on February 2008, they are going to start selling everything starting with a 5% off, and lower from then on as they get closer to the closing date. Take advantage of the good price to get some kool stuff at good price.
-
wow im glad i havent bought a laptop with a warranty there at compusa....
o yeah and back on topic, i love this laptop its practical and is a performer (reccomend you upgrade the RAM though and delete bloatware) -
this laptop can get really loud when plugged into some speakers or headphones.
but the speakers alone arent that good lol.
anyone found a bluetooth plugin yet? -
-
I've just got one of these great laptop's! I'm really really impressed with it!
Couple of questions:
Memory - can anyone confirm which 2gb sodimm's work in these notebooks? I've just tried Apacer branded memory, BIOS recognises it, but it won't boot up. Anyone tried the transcend with the samsung chips on it?
Vista 64-bit - If you haven't already put this on your notebook, do it now! My gosh is it fast! I can't get over it - even with the pathetic 1gb of memory! However, I'm having an issue getting the display drivers installed (all other drivers are fine - the only ones x64 doesn't do automatically are the wifi which you can get from the realtek.com.tw website and the graphics).
I've downloaded the latest catalyst pack from AMD, but when installing all goes fine up until installing the northbridge drivers, then setup sort of ends abruptly, saying it completed successfully, but it hasn't installed anything except Catalyst install manager!? Any ideas how to get this working?
Cheers!
Karl -
Gosh - gateway support sucks!
I contacted them regarding the graphics drivers, simply for them to come back and inform me I have changed the OS and they can't support! That's ridiculous, it's the same OS, just a 64-bit version. And if the rumours are true that they have prevented catalyst drivers from working by way of agreement between gateway and ATI this is simply not acceptable!
Has anyone had success in getting the display drivers working fine on this notebook with vista x64?
Karl -
Duh - I deserve a kick in the butt...
After all that I never just tried teh gateway drivers - even though they say 32-bit! Gosh!
Working now!
But still interested about the Memory... -
about the memory i got g.skill at newegg 1gb sticks. so ive got 2gb ram now. as for the 64bit i cannot afford to buy an OS im pretty happy with 32bit .
about the drivers havent updated anything yet, pretty much just using it for graphics internet and games, mcafee really slows the laptop down
btw does anyone get random bluescreens when starting up the laptop? and then a crash dump going from 0 to 100. weird coz it happened a few times with me -
You don't need to buy a new OS! You already have a product key, you just need a 64-bit installation disk!
Going to try some transcend memory this afternoon, as it turns out, the Apacer dimms I recieved were a bad batch. so getting my money back on them! -
well, I officially have 4gb of memory installed and running on a 64-bit vista installation with all drivers functioning! YAY!
It's flippin fast! I'm really happy.
Few notes:
- Gateways '32-bit' drivers available for the graphics are fine for 64-bit as well.
- To have 4gb's working you need the UMA size to be set to either 256 or auto, 128 doesn't work.
- I have transcend chips working a-ok!
- I'm a happy camper!
Karl -
right on and congrats!
-
does the t-1616 by factory have 1 stick of ram in it? or 2 512MB?
-
2 512mb RAM sticks.

Hey lokster, was curious what games you have played on the t-1616? i had a busy holiday videogame season w/ my xbox 360 but wanted to try out some games on the laptop now. what kinda fps did you get in the games you've played?
-
halo 2. low to medium setting, but with lowest resolution
half life 2 orange box works great i get 40-70fps
those are the two fps ive only been playing everything else is rts
dawn of war dark crusade high settings
company of heroes+ opposing front medium to high
command and conquer tiberium wars.
gta san andreas is fun. hmm havent tried CoD 4 on this laptop might try it later. ^^ -
Why is there a bluetooth FN Key on my laptop but it doesnt work. Does anyone know if this is a mistake gateway made or that my laptops bluetooth is broken?
-
slayerfaith1982 Notebook Evangelist
there's no bluetooth built in this model. however you can add it at your expense w/ a bluetooth card and then that Fn function will work.
-
A new version of ATi Catalyst drivers have been released, and unfortunately in this version the x1270 in our laptops are again not supported.. weird.
-
It actually is supported, but it is not listed on the group. The x1270 is actually part of the x1100 family. If you choose the 1250 for example, it should work. I just updated mine yesterday and it works perfectly.
-
I was having trouble with my webcam and MSN. After trying a bunch of things. I uninstalled and re-installed MSN and it seemed to have solved the problem, but it started again.
After looking at several forums, it seems that a lot of people have the same problem with chicony webcams on different laptops. The only solution that worked definitely was replacing the drivers with the ones for the Acer Crystal Eye webcam that uses the chicony chipset. You will also have to install the Acer crystal eye software to preview the webcam. It has a lot less options than the Gateway software, but at least it works. -

do the new drivers help performance on the videocard?
-
probably fixes the graphics bugs with the sims 2. and more. i dunno havent updated yet
-
ok i dunno if anyones still reading this but i have the T-1620, basically same as the 1616, and is it just me or does it look like the cpu can actually be replaced? it looks like it is in a socket not a soder but i dont really know this is really the first notebook ive messed with. Also has anyone found a mini PCIe bluetooth card?
-
about the CPU maybe and probably but i havent messed with it.
about the Bluetooth, there is space for a mini pci card. try googling bluetooth mini pci -
have you actually found one though? i know the slots there, tore this apart today
, i check ebay and no mini pci bluetooth, i saw the thread where you gys found the usb one but i cant find any other then that, are you having any problems with your hdmi by any chance? could just be me.
-
Bunny, I know this sounds obvious, but are you sure the cable is firmly seated at both ends? The HDMI ports on my one TV are tight and the first time I used one of them I thought there was a problem and it turned out that I needed to really push the cable in one more time until I felt it "click" into place a little.
What kind of problems are you having? -
read my other thread, its something like t-1620 hdmi problems please help or something and yea im sure its seated tight
-
pushed on the media bar, feels pretty solid, also the white dots for the vertical scrollbar dont rub off (at least not with the T-1620) Also open box items, you gotta figure lots of people come through testing as you did, maybe thats why it rubbed off...
I got this for Xmas, and after 2 hours with vista I downgraded back to XP, installed all drivers and everything is good. I have 1.6gb of memory and loving the huge 250gb hard drive, the only thing I'm not liking about it is the battery life. I have the same 4400mh battery as others I've read in this thread, but I only seem to be getting 30 mins of battery life
this is with wireless on, nothing else open... i use firefox/opera for browsing.
with wireless off, I get maybe 45mins tops -
if u installed xp could you point out all the drivers and where you got it?
as for the battery try the balanced or power saver, using high performance should at least get you 1 and 30mins.
on power saver i get at least 2 hours.
on balanced at least 1 hour and 50mins
the battery problem could also be related to XP as these battery levels are from vista -
I'm using:
audio device high definition audio bus: found on the Gateway site, I searched for the D00758-001-001 driver, its for another notebook, but it works.
video VGA: from the link above, worked like a charm
nic/wnic: all in one found here: http://www.realtek.com.tw/ (downloads dont seem to be up) I have it saved though. Wireless card found my router instantly and tried connecting. Even found my aunt's network down the street, seems this wireless g card has wireless n range
not all the drivers are installed mind you...
I think the 4 ? are relating to the chipset driver, I dont think there is one for this model (unless I havent found it yet)
I havent installed the Sinaptics drivers yet... probably should since the pointer keeps jumping
as for the modem: stopped using dialup 5 years ago, so there was no need for it.
I was fearing XP might be the reason for my battery but Vista takes more power to run right?
oh yeah, the webcam installed itself, it shows up in my computer as "USB Video Device"Attached Files:
-
-
vista take alot of power to run especially with aero on. its probably XP messing with the battery =/ if not have you tried getting the battery replaced.
can you please share the realtek drivers
great job on the audio!
the wireless range is a pretty good 20-40feet! i live near a hotel which is a good 40-50feet my estimate. and it reaches my house. but then ive got big windows and so do they lol. even with low signal i still get pretty good internet. -
I'm gonna call on Monday about replacing the battery, still bummed I gotta be tied down to a limited range.
here are the Realtek drivers, since downloads are not up yet http://www.mediafire.com/?adnccuduz91
when i get the battery taken care of, I'll test its range more thoroughly. -
Just to let you guys know, the latest Ati Catalyst drivers finally support the x1270. BOTH VISTA and XP drivers. It will show as x1200 series.
The past few official releases would not detect any compatible hardware for our T-series. And only driver we had that we could use was the original one from gateway. So upgrade away.
