Ok so when I first got my X9000 I was too anxious to bench my T5550 and just installed the X9000 as soon as I opened the package. So last night I swapped in my T5550 and ran some games and used fraps to benchmark my fps.

All benchmarks were with my 8800m GTS at 600 core, 900 mem, and 1500 shader. (197.45 drivers)

    GTA: IV: I am using Magnus72's config @ 1440x900.

    T5550 @ 1.8GHz:

I drove around the first island for 5 minutes.

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
    4446, 299918, 8, 21, 14.824

    X9000 @ 3.4GHz:

Another drive around the first island.

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg

I also ran a 3 lap race at shibuya with rally cross cars and used fraps benchmarking.
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
    5716, 209047, 21, 37, 27.343

    X9000 @ 3.4GHz:

As you can see the stock CPU holds the system back in games. Bad company 2 and crysis warhead was pretty much unplayable for me with the stock CPU. Even a game like cod 4 which people say isn't a CPU intensive game saw a nice improvement.

Any 6831/6860fx owners still on the stock CPU I highly recommend an upgrade.

Strange about warhead, I don't get a change in fps when I overclock from 2.4 to 3.3ghz.

I think it is because the T5550 just bottlenecks the 8800m GTS.

Yeah I guess that makes sense.
My 9600m GT is the bottleneck in my case.

Looking forward to buy one soon if there are any left on Ebay at a descent price.

can you do more benchmarks. I would like to see games like WIC how is performing that is known for CPU usage or any other game that comes up to your mind, Maybe GTA4.

Would the WIC demo/benchmark work? I can do GTA 4 also. I will update the thread with a few more games sometime this week.

As i can remember WIC demo can work even thought i thing its a bit different benchmark compared to the release version but if you do the same benchmark with the same version it won't matter.

Supreme Commander is a very intensive CPU game i dont know if there is a demo o a benchmark for it but its a good CPU benchmark.

^you will not regret it that's for sure. Find a good deal on a t9900 or x9100 and you will be set.

Truly T5550 sucks so bad at everything. starting from low clock, small L2 cache, slow FSB, and the heat produced/performance is bad and it just makes your 8800gts hopeless, i can remember when 1 used to play GTA 4 the CPU fan was was spinning at 100% and the GPU fan well not all them time but sometimes it did kicked out and that was for a short period of time.

I'm saving money to get a x9000, a good thermal paste for GPU and CPU and hoping to do e mod or change the thermal pad at GPU and chipset.

When I had my 6860fx or whatever it had 1.83ghz core 2 duo and geforce 8800 and back then it played all my games great (mostly just world of warcraft) I was quite happy with it, but my new 7815u , i have to turn the graphics down to keep playable framerates at 1440x900 (mostly cod mw2). Im going to install fraps tonight and see where im at then overclock my video card.

I just cant get my head around paying $300 for a used CPU when i only paid $709 for the laptop. im leaning towards an X7800 which is still a bump in cache, 600mhz and it can overclock?

I would really recommend you get a penryn cpu like the t9400, t9600, t9900, or x9100. Yeah the X7xxx cpu series are cheap but they run hot and are not as efficient as the penryn cpus. I would get a t9300 over a x7800 if you want to save money.

Yeah I agree. I don't know how I used the T5550 for so long. The T5550 for every day use was good but for gaming it really sucks.

im going to order a X9100 and if that falls through ill go with a T9400. The T9400 is $110 shipped and 2.53ghz and 6mb cache 35w. Hopefully i can sell my P7350 for like $50 to offset some of the cost.

    Thanks for the benchmarks Erik

So we can see that our 8800m GTS is still a good GPU. No need for more with 1440x900 res. Maybe 9800m GTS is a better choice for bigger ram and slightly higher clocks and better overclocking i guess.

I still have some friends that are playing with 8800 GTX for years now and what i can say is that there is no need for better GPU because consoles have set a boundary to graphics development and we in a way lucky even though i wish there ware more PC exclusive titles, this is what i thing. Wish this will go on a bit more LOL.

Yeah the 8800m GTS is still a very good card at 1440x900. The 9800m GTS will perform better in games that like more video memory(GTA 4) and can be overclocked higher.

Yeah totally agree. As long as the current gen consoles are around this laptop should have no problem with most games.

also you can beryl note DX10 to DX9 difference except for performance drop and they still look very good at DX9.

so what is up to our lapys is to live long. LOL.

No problem. If your CPU is overheating you should look into undervolting and apply some new thermal paste. This works wonders with the T5550.
