Yeah the t8300 fits the laptop perfectly, and should be a pretty noticeable boost compared to the 6831's stock CPU.

And yeah osstore is pretty good all things considered, and they do have decent prices.

The reason this processor is cheaper than the others is because it is an es (engineering sample). Kind of like a prototype. Should work like the retail version but there have been some people who have experienced problems with them.

There will be no problems with the ES, they just have no warranty. I have heard of no one with a Gateway using an ES having any problems at all

    what he said ^

however the t8300 is very well priced in the states, i would buy an oem just because there is always a chance of doa, then the time and money sending it back to china....

i was actually going to purchase a T8300 in the next couple of days. i would get this, but i'd rather just spend and extra $60 (i think) with newegg to get the warranty.

Thought I saw it in a thread on here somewhere...maybe not. All I know is that when buying an es you are risking getting a product that could have been stress tested to hell and back by the developer or an early prototype that doesn't have all the features of the retail version. Also no warranty.

yes, but you can ask the seller to post a cpuz picture, so you know the stepping and you can tell if you are missing out.

so far all our x7800s are same stepping as the final built and fully stable.
actually in one of "es haters" thread around here i asked whether anyone can actually say he saw a single c2d es processors that went bad with his own eyes. nothing but silence. i can point you to horror stories about es cpus, fud.

If anything these models handle the stress bettter, as they are tested by companies, etc, to see how far they can go.

Indeedie. Something tells me we have a lot more to go, clock speed wise, before hitting the Great Barrier. I'll bet we can hit 3.5ghz easy. Albeit the machine will have caught on fire and killed everyone we loved......
