Which is better for games?(upgrade for p6860) I don't care about the price just performance. Extra 2megs of cache vs higher clockspeed. I'm bidding for both right now and need advice. Also can the t9300 be overclocked on a p6860?

T9300. (Cheaper ?)
Forget about overclocking the T9300, Overclock the 8800M GTS.... -
-
I think the X7900 might be on par with the T9300 when overclocked to 3.00GHz.
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php
But the T9300 can be overclocked by upping the FSB, and will undervolt better than the X7900. Hence, it will provide good (slightly better) performance at a much lower temperature.... -
Thank you finally a straightforward answer. +rep for you.
-
You cannot OC a T9300 in these laptops, on the Extreme models can be OCed.
-
If the System Bus can control the FSB in that notebook, then no BIOS limitation can prevent the system bus from overclocking the FSB.
You can either hard-wire the clock generator to overclock the FSB, or find a software that supports that PLL.
The only limitation is, that the RAM and the GPU are also OCed alongwith the CPU. -
why do you think we all bought these extreme models? Had we been able to OC the other models I would have bought one of them in a second over this. I dont know if you are familiar with the Phoenix BIOS' but they control everything, we have no control on FSB, and no program is going to allow us to alter the FSB.
-
I have a Phoenix BIOS as well, and I am at 200MHz FSB with a T5200 (943GML NB)
Enough with hijacking, but OCing or no OCing, 2.5Ghz vs 3.00GHz -> You won't notice much of a difference in the most intense of intensive tasks. -
I dont know what more you want me to say...It just doesnt work on these laptops.
-
atm no oc on non x-cpu, regardless of fancy theories.
-
Agreed. And the x7800(which is for all intensive purposes the same as the x7900) can actually be had for less than the T9300.

Usually fleabay. ZI got mine for $225.
-
-
They were up all the time, but people must be hanging onto them and/or supply is running out as there aren't as many. But keep an eye out and check everyday. Im usually on ebay quite frequently scoping deals, so Ill keep an eye out for you as well.
-
Thanks Dook.
-
Sure thing.
EDIT: Heres a T9500 with only a day left, The current bid is like $82.00. Im more than sure it'll go up at the last minute, but its worth keeping an eye on. -
Same guy is selling a t9300 will keep an eye on both. Good find, I completely forgot the t9500 existed.
-
just a heads up. -
-
-
-
-
i agree the t9300 is no compromise.
-
I third the T9300 as being one ossim cee pee yew. The only reason I linked the T9500 previously as it only had a day to go and had a relatively low price for the time left. You'll be extremely happy with any of the suggestions.
-
Thanks for the advice guys. I got a t9300 *new* for $249.
edit:hopefully Gateway releases a bios update that will let us oc non extreme cpus. -
but heres to hoping!
-
And I agree with diablo, GW creating any sort of useful BIOS is pretty much a pipe dream. -
-
-
well I have been looking at it, should be OCes available to 3.6, maybe only for the X9000 though. also RAID is now enabled. I am trying to "unshadow" the V BIOS as we speak
-
Cool! Thanks for the effort! +rep If you get this working, I'll even throw a few $$$ to your paypal acct.
-
Why not try and find the actual PLL for that notebook, and use software overclocking? -
come to my new thread! i might have figured out a way for us to have an 8800m GTX
-
-
-
it wont work with these laptops. as dookie poo just said.
