I recently got a 6860 and i was wondering if you can put a t9400 cpu into it instead of a t9300 since newegg ran out of the t9300 but still got the t9400. The t9400 seems to be a slightly faster chip but it's the same price as the t9300.

Yes, the t9400 will work, looks like the price finally came down, nice find, I say snatch it up.

I know the FSB is 1066 for the t9400 and 800 for the t9300. Are you sure that the t9400 will go down to 800 Nirvana? Cause if that's the case, then the clock speed will go down greatly since ti can't be overclocked.

i dont think they are backwards compatible.

i know some of the newer systems can take the old CPU's, but i dont know if the old systems can take the new CPU's

They might can, so if it works let me know (because if it does i have an x9000 for sale then so i can pick up the x9100)

If it downclocks to accomodate the 800mhz bus wouldn't it be a 1.9Ghz cpu then? Maybe I'm thinking about this wrong but:

    1066/4 =266 x 9.5= 2531.75 or 2.53Ghz

    800/4=200 x 9.5= 1900 or 1.9Ghz

The t9300 uses a 12.5 multiplier to get 2.5ghz from an 200mhz bus. So no, it won't work.

As I pointed out in another thread newbiiz has the T9300 for 307.99 with free shipping.
