I've been thinking of upgrading the processor on my laptop, and before I push the purchase button I just want to make sure I'm not making a huge mistake (I've bought a processor for the wrong socket before >.<).

This is the processor I'm planning on buying.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Intel-Mobile-Core2-DUO-T9600-2-8G-6M-FSB-1066-SLB47-CPU_W0QQitemZ150294218677QQihZ005QQcategoryZ99251QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247

My main concerns before buying it is:

    1. Will I need to upgrade my bios to install this cpu? (and how if I do)

    2. Will I run into any heat problems? (I would put as5 between the cpu and the heatsink)

    3. This is the right socket for the 6860fx right? ^_^

Wrong one. You need a t9300 or t9500 if u wanna stick with the higher cache faster speed ones.

The socket is right, but the BIOS doesn't support it.
I remember one user who tried a P9500 and failed.

Will I still have to update the bios for that one?

    Yes, 100MHz and 0.5x multilplier.
If you can get the T9500 cheap, go for it.

(T9300 will UV at 2.4 in RMClock) :p

FYI, 1st link T9500 is an ES.

Heh, yea I might go with the t9300 now that I know there almost the exact same thing, and probably go buy a second hard drive with that $100 I save.

Cheapest I could find for the 9500 is the $320 one I posted up above.

c'mon dammit. there is a workaround for that, and ironic that i havent had ANY problems running it at 2.5 ghz with IDA multiplier used, but the actual IDA turned off.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that one can play-around with IDA, which is buggy --> works well for some, not for all !!
