Hello Folks
As my previous post, I'm preparing to upgrade my P-7811 FX and I strongly tend towards the T9900.
Do you think this is the end of the development line for the performance oriented Core 2 Duo processor, at least for the kind we can drop on our P-7811 FX without any modification and with full BIOS support??
Do you believe we will ever see a P processor at 3.06 GHz (for example an hypothetical P9900) at 25W???
If there is something like that in the works at Intel, I would not mind waiting few months for my upgrade...with the same frequancy I would prefer the lower consumption CPU, mainly to avoid potential thermal issues.
Anyone of you heard anything about more models coming in this "family" of processors??
Thanks for your comments!!!
Regards
P.S.
Just for curiosity: The new mobile CPUs that will be based on the Core i7 family of chip what kind of socket they will be based on?? I believe the Socket P is gone right???

I would be inclined to say it's doubtful that any other refreshes will happen for the notebook Core2 line. Core i7 will be released next year and will definitely use a different socket, so you cannot upgrade.

...i7 is coming out this year, look around the forum several notebook specs with Core i7 have already should of with releases just a few months away.
I have some of the same concerns as well with Intel dumping Core 2, I was looking forward to some more Core 2 Quads, but it looks like I might not get my wish. I can't find the P9700 on fleebay, info says its a 2.8Ghz which makes it now my front runner over the T9900. -
The Ci7 are awesome processors, to be sure....but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Core 2 Duo, which unless you have to have the best of the best will last you at least another 12-18 months.
As far as the C2D line ending, you might see a few more mainstream or low power offerings, but the T9900 is probably the end of the line for the C2D for enthusiast.
T9900 and P9700: Do you think is the end of the line for the Core 2 Duo processor???
