CS should play fine with 4Gb... plays fine on mine.

And you may want to either remove the Vista code from your pic, or blur it out.

You don't need one. As long as you have a 32 bit key, you can use it for the 64 bit of the same version of Vista that you have. And yes, I'm aware that you're being sarcastic. :p

Take note that in the middle picture Task Manager says that you only have 5MB of RAM free. Did you disable Virtual Memory? If so, turn it back on and your game may work (if Vista is telling you that there is not enough memory to run it).

EDIT: Ok I see that it is on, but why is your system using 6GB of memory? Better find the applications that are using that much RAM and close them. And make sure Windows has control over your Virtual Memory size.

Uhh, that would be Vista using free memory. Its called SuperFetch. Its cached 2869gb worth of data from the programs most often used. Unused memory is wasted memory.

no you are wrong~~~~don't you know X64 is different form x32?the most difference is that X64 os can identify 4G memory completely, but if you run CS1.5,it will say it's not enough memory to run it~~~

i look forward to resolving it perfectly

Uhh, well didn't you notice that the "Free" column only said 5MB of his 4096, and his CS is definitely not a frequently used program since it doesn't even run! Also take note of the Virtual Memory graph that says 1.49 GB and the bars are all the way up. That means that the entire swap file that he has dedicated for programs to use as extra RAM is full. So lets see, if his 4GB of system ram is full, and his virtual memory is full, then how can he run more programs?

@ Pilot: No, I am not wrong. Yes, I know that an x64 based system can cache more than 4GB of memory (up to 128GB even). However, all of RAM is being occupied by your programs, and the Virtual memory on your hard disk is full, so how do you expect any more programs to run at that moment? When I turned off Virtual memory on my Intel 486 machine, even though I had 64MB of memory installed, I was unable to run my NetZero dial-up internet program because Windows 98 gave me an "out of memory" warning.

Maybe his version of CS didn't have to use Steam. I know my Half Life Platinum GOTY pack never needed Steam to run.

*sigh* His 4gb of RAM is NOT full. This is the same thing people complained about when Vista first launched, I figured people would have understood this by now.

Superfetch uses an algorithm based on many checkpoints to decide which programs to cache into free memory. If for some reason, Windows decides it needs more memory for a running program, it will IMMEDIATELY flush the requested amount of cache and give the program the memory it needs to run. If you absolutely MUST know how much memory is available, look at both Free AND Cached. And in his case he's got close to 3gb available.

Also, I'm not sure where you got the idea that his swap file was full, but hes only using 1875mb out of 8370mb allotted. The graph you speak of is not the "virtual memory graph", its the amount of RAM the OS is currently using and its far from full.

And I, too, am interested as to what resolved the problem. :)

Ok, I guess that I epically fail. I'm mad at myself for looking like a n00b (which I am not, as I have years of experience with computers inside and out even though I am a teenager :) ). I apologize for being kind of nasty about it, and thanks for correcting what I said.

I'm taking a wild guess that maybe his CS version was too old and incompatible with 64 bit Windows (which many older games are). Valve might have fixed the issue in the newer version of CS that he downloaded off the internet.
