Has anyone here successfully installed a TL-50 or a TL-52 in their LT3103u?

I read some people have upgraded to it but I don't know if they post anymore, figured I'd ask in a new thread instead of bumping an old thread.

A member over at hardforum did so I tried to mimic him but ended up not working out. I know to downclock the CPU but the problem is I can't downclock it without getting into windows. I've tried many different BIOS's and none seem to work. Right now I'm using the OEM Packard Bell dot m/a bios which seems to be the exact one the Gateway ended up using before discontinuing. 1.3302?

Problem is I put the CPU in, plug everything in, try to boot it up on:
    Power cable no battery
    Power cable and battery
    No cable and battery

All start the laptop up with the CPU fan running, but nothing on the screen. The screen stays black. I read the tips here that removing the battery for a good amount of time, or removing the RAM would maybe let it start up but no luck for me ;\

    Any ideas?

Well, from this thread I think it looks like some people tried it. It wasn't clear to m exactly what the results where, but it's probably worth a look:

Personally, I would tell you to scrap the idea and grab a TK-42. These also run at 1.6 ghz,yet they're only rated at 20W TDP; the TL is around 31W.

I transplanted a single core 1.6 ghz TF-20 in mine without incident. Good luck.

ive successfully installed both a tl-52 and tk-42 in my lt3103u

my bios is still the orig 1.3103 version

the tk-42 showed up randomly on ebay for a couple weeks ($40)...you really just have to get lucky (there were only 3 available)

as for the tl-52, i dont remember any specific tricks to get it to boot...maybe external cooling (standalone fan, cooling pad, putting it up against your wall-mounted AC, etc :p ) until you can actually get into windows and underclock/volt it

are you sure your tl-52 is in working condition?

Ah, you must have beat me to it! I too saw that TK-42 crop up on ebay, but I foolishly didn't snag one in time. I'm about to order one from taobao after Chinese new year is over. Were you able to run the TK at full speed without issue?
