Has anyone tried taking their decals off from their laptops?
I want the laptop to be completely blank from any kind of name; just a clean looking laptop.

will rubbing alcohol do the job?

Are you talking about the logos that are painted onto the frame around the monitor?

    Just paint over them?

It is going to look bad tho imo...it will be hard to get that glossy finish to match.

people remove logos from cellphones with sugar. Maybe you should goole the instructable and see if that would work for you.

The way you remove decals from cars is to spray ammonia, or some orange based cleaner, cover it with plastic food wrap, and let it sit for 10-15 mins and wipe it off.

edit: the gateway logo on the LCD bezel should come off, but the one on the top cover seems to be infused (part of the plastic, not paint).

Sure, If I wanted to do this myself I would probably use a clear plastic polish. It's a product that's normally used for polishing headlights that have turned yellow or have fine scratches. Meguires and 3M are brands that I've used. I would start here because the polish is so fine that I've usually use it to repair scratched CDs and DVDs.

Careful using anything on the bezel around lcd . Just touching the bezel scratches it and cleaning it scratches it and i had tried everything under the sun including the clear plastic polish from 2 companys and neither of them worked and actually made it worse in the end . on my 7811 i havent even cleaned it yet cause i know im going to just scratch the hell out of it no matter what i use including mircofiber cloths etc . the dust is what scratches it but i have found no way to remove the dust before cleaning it without leaving surface scratches.

it's not a bezel that's on the back of the monitor panel. It's "infused"

    I just got the M-6862.

Your right in saying that it's the dust that scratches it. Also you should use lint free cotton cloths for polishing, not microfiber. When I worked as an optician cotton barcloths are the only things we ever used to clean plastic, polycarb, and glass lenses since they don't scratch. And use lubrication before wiping anything. Lens cleaner lifts the dust off the surface of the plastic (lens, etc.) before you wipe it away. If you don't use a cleaner all you're doing is grinding the crud into what you're trying to clean. Finally, in cleaning you use the one wipe, turn method. Spray, wipe, turn the cloth, wipe, turn the cloth, wipe. Otherwise again, you're just grinding crud and creating scratches.
