I dont know what the normal temps are for a 260m but that sounds very hot. What kind of surface are you on? my max temp in my gateway is around 65c for my 8800m gts.

Yeah dude you definitely have a problem. Possible causes are:

    1) Faulty cooling fan.

    2) Faulty thermal pad or faulty thermal grease depending on the mobo setup.

My 8600M GT gets 92 celcius, while my CPU gets 94 celcius, or was it the other way around. Both are 92+Celcius anyway, and I need to use ice when I want to play in the summer.

Sounds like I got a big problem..hmm..I clean my vents once a week but maybe there's some extra dust on my video card, in order to reach it I have to basically disassemble my entire laptop right? or is there an easier way?
My clocks are 550/950/1350 I haven't touched them, do you think they are maybe a bit OC'ed?
Im using a Deep Cool N16 cooling pad ( http://deepcool-in.com/Product/N16/ ) because on the stores I went to they didnt have any other 17" cooling pads..
My setup is the following: Cooling pad is on top of my wooden desk, and my laptop is on top of my cooling pad, there is about a 15-20cm space (6 Inch aprox.) between the left side of my laptop and the wall (the left side is where the hot air from the GPU comes out), I have an external 21.5" LCD Samsung montior connected to the laptop and it's on the right side, about 6" to the right from the laptop and the back of both the cooling pad and the laptop is about 4" away from the other wall.
The cleaning method I use is to blow compressed air through what I think are the air intakes of my laptop located on the bottom side of it, HDD never goes past 49ºC and both CPUS dont go past 55ºC its just my GPU that gets really hot..any ideas?

is your fan working properly? my gpu fan stoped working and had to be replaced. be careful when you clean out the vents/fan area because you can damage the fan.

I had same temps with my P-7811FX. I took a can of compressed air, pointed it through the heatsink from the side of the laptop and gave a couple of sprays. Then I went under and pointed outwards through the GPU vent. I repeated these steps until I saw no dust coming out. I would do the same with CPU for optimal results.

I'm going to get some software and check my temps, cause it seems like mine's blowing some pretty freakin hot air, but I've never done this before. What software should I use? btw, i'm not using a cooling pad, just setting it on the kitchen table. I thought those cooling pads were for use in your lap.

Use something to prop the back of your laptop. HWMonitor is the simplest one.

Btw to the OP. There was an underclocking thread on one of the forums. If your running Vista or W7 you can set the max power percentage of your CPU's via Power Options. It WILL bring down your temps that's if the game is question doesn't rely too much on the CPU.

i know your gpu isnt an mxm card but my bro has an asus in which it over heated and reached those temp you are reaching. we cleaned out the fan real well (took it out abd gave it a good scrub down so to speak) but it still over heated. after a format and reinstall and still overheating we found out the mxm card had the mother of all dust bunnies under it. after removal of said monster bunny the gpu no longer overheated and ran like it did when it was new. my point is that even cleaning out your fan real good might not fix it so be prepared for a complete dis-assembly.

EDIT: oh my gpu temp doesnt go over 67c even after a 2 hr session of l4d2

Do you have a cooling pad? My lappy is only 1 month old, there shouldn't be any monster dust bunnies in it.

I don't use a cooling pad and my gpu temps are around 65c max. I prop up the back with two bottle caps.

Okay this is weird. I downloaded the demo for crysis, and ran it on high graphics for about a half hour, which ran pretty good on my gtx 260m i'd have to say. then i checked the temp, and it had gotten up to 55c, quite a bit cooler than when i was playing star wars force unleashed, which got up to 83c after 30 min of game play.

it gets even weirder...i left to go get some dinner, was gone about 30 min, and when i got back saw that the temp got up to 79c in crysis, with the game in the pause menu!
