I recently upgraded my p7805u stock processor from the p8400 to the t9600, and with it, a 10w increase in stock settings. I have obviously undervolted, but im wondering if my temps are low enough to be safe, or should i invest in a cooling pad. at full throttle, it idles around 40C and under stress like gaming for a couple hours, it will jump to as high as 71C. is this ok/safe for the computer/processor?

71 degrees is still WELL with in the safety zone, so your max temp is fine.

Though your idle does seem to be high. I would figure you should idle in the low to mid 30's unless you are in a very warm environment.

its only that high when i idle it in "high performance" as my power setting. if I put it in power saver or balanced, it kicks down to about 30C. but it is odd, rightmark utility is showing my multiplier to be 10x even during idle??(on high performance setting that is)

Could it be that you have it set up to always be 10x in RightMark? I forgot to check 11x on my t9800 one time and it maxed out at 10x. As for temps, if it's running at full speed all the time, 40C probably isn't a bad idle temp. For comparison, my t9800 idles at 32C (average) and peaks at 50C in games (rarely) and low 60s in stress tests. I think it runs cool partially due to undervolting, and partially due to the way more than necessary amount of ICD7 I put on it. And I do suggest you get a cooling pad. Even if the CPU doesn't need it, it will help the GPU somewhat and the hard drive a hell of a lot.
