First off - thank you everyone who is so helpful on these forums! I have been lurking here for quite some time and all of the exceptionally helpful information posted here has been invaluable in assisting me with the purchase of my new gateway 7805u!

Thanks to everyone here, I got a solid unit with the 19x12 screen (yay yay yay!!) and I also was able to settle on a fabulous gaming lappy to replace my aging little 14 inch school work notebook.

So - in short, you guys rock!

And now a couple of questions regarding the 7805u...

What is the fastest processor that cna be placed into this notebook?

How safe is overclocking on the video card, and how much should I attempt to overclock it?

If there are some threads or posts I have missed with this info, I apologize and would greatly appreciate a boot to the hind end in the right direction...
thbanks to everyone here, you guys rock big time!!!

Waiting for the latest 7808u I think with the Quad core CPU, if someone can get the bios on that, I believe we can get quad-core still a heat sink mod will be required.

Agreed, not many programs optimized for it anyways. Therefore a high clocked dual is better until maybe when we can OC the quad...but I worry about the temps then.

Thanks for all the kind words folks! Now if only I could get it to run anything I would be really happy. at the moment, it locks up within 15 minutes of starting anything mroe strenuous than a web browser...

fallout 3 lasts for 15 minutes AT MOST, sacred 2 is even less, lasts about 5 mins max, cruising forums it wont lock up for about 45 mins or so but it usually locks up even then.

It is a hard lock, not a BSOD or a restart crash, the unit simply becomes completely unresponsive. no mouse movement, no ctl-alt-del response, the only way to get it back to working order is to hold the power b utton till it shuts off and restart it.

not sure why its doing this, it doesnt seem heat related, the fans are not kicking in to high gear at all, but the reason i bought it (to play games and do homework) is rapidly becoming irrelevant since it cannot play games and I could do homework on my old machine.

    Hi,
The lockup you describe sounds video related. It could be the GPU but more likely is the video memory. you could try different video drivers but are better off using the 14 day return and get a different unit. Others have had an issue with the 7811 and usb so this could be an issue as well with a defective machine.
