Installing the Vista 64 bit 175.80 driver will give you the same error at step 12, but if you apply the fix it will work fine. The driver was from laptop2go btw.

i keep getting "access is dead" or some sort of read error everytime i click something in the driver sweeper
i ran 3dmark06 twice and both gave me bad scores as if my graphics card doesnt work
im a bit paranoid to try running the new drivers again...lol i wonder why it doesnt work
    it installs successfully and everything...

I'm not sure if this will change anything but right click on the Driver Sweeper icon and run it as an administrator. Do you have UAC enabled?

What about actual frame rates in games? I've always gone on the premise that synthetic benchmarks are a bit pointless really - it's real world that counts. I get an extra 5 fps in UT3 with these drivers which actually makes quite a large difference.

after installing your fresh new "shinny" (lol) inf file. go to the nvidia control panel
and check your settings there. move the slider to performance and retest. this is what gages an almost 100 to 700 point increase or decrease in score or in game performance. get familiar with these settings in here and what they do. because they have a vast effect on how your computer will operate.

it's all about trial and error.... you have to get in and test it out. if you make mistakes, then click the restore to default and start again. these are the setting most of these inf files change.

on that paticular run...200 points more. if i would have ran it with a 2.5 or 2.6 it would have grabbed about 200-300 points lower than it is now. scores change with different speeds. i ran it a 1.6ghz and grabbed a 7k score on stock.

so in short.is useless with the 8800gts then?

special thing to note when using driver sweeper is to clean it TWICE. after using clean the first time i checked and some of the items that were cleaned were unticked.so i did a clean again and saw that there were several things drivers sweeper didnt pick up the first time.

it said it installed, but i didn't have any physx games or apps to prove that it actually worked work. and the one i tried wouldn't even run. and you cant run 3dmark vantage with xp because it's only for vista. and since xp is no longer my main os, i just left it at that till they have it running under vista.

177.41 have been the fastest for me in actual games. I'm not a fan of synthetic benchmarks.

177.66 have just been released however so I am going to give those a try now. Have also updated the first post to include these.

Guide has been updated with instructions of how to use the Gateway OEM inf file 'nvga.inf' if it is included with the driver (as it is with 177.66).

Running 177.66 with Gateway OEM inf right now and they seem pretty good.

The lv2g inf has been created by Peiter from lv2g and has custom tweaks and settings. The Gateway OEM inf has been created by nVidia specifically for Gateway laptops. I prefer to use the Gateway inf and then tweak the driver options manually in the nVidia control panel if required.
