If you are experiencing the random popping and clicking sound heard primarily through external speakers, you more than likely need to disable the "Enable Power Management" located on the last tab of the IDT Audio Control Panel. The IDT Audio Control Panel is located in the Windows Control Panel.

The popping sound occurs when the sound card goes in and out of Power Savings State. As you enable and disable this feature, you can actually hear the annoying popping happen.

Yes turning this on and off causes a soft poping noise. I tried it and heard the soft pop, 10 seconds later, but volume was really cranked on my Onkyo to where the music would have been blasting ;)

For games and music this is not a problem, for me, as nothing gets cut off or on in normal use.

    Thanks for the info.
