Hi all, been lurking for some time now but just decided to join the forums!
I want to buy the P-6860FX from bestbuy but I'm not from the States. I'm visiting soon but by the time I get there (Jul 26th) I'm afraid all the 6860's will have run out (specially considering the new price drop!)

So I visited gateway.com and chatted with a sales rep who gave me the specs for the new FX's which haven't been posted on the site yet. It seems some of the formatting from the original doc he must have been working on was lost on the email he sent me, so I'm not sure what all those "Standard" refer to, but here goes the specs he sent me, in case anyone's interested: (wonder what Godzilla Discrete means...)

Looks interesting. "Godzilla Discrete" probably an internal reference to being their large laptop with discrete graphics.

So the only difference between the 173 and 172 is that the slot load dvd/rw has been replaced with tray load labelflash and 160gb HDD has been replaced by 200... and the ship with an OS that can actually make use of the RAM.

also a T7500 on the 173X FX and Vista Ultimate on both come to attention, as well as tray load optical drives

oh, and a smaller but faster hdd on the 173X, and no montevina update :(

sucks that they ditched the draft-n networking on the 173X which is the one i'll most likely end up buying if they discontinue the 6860 at bb.

It seems to me that the 173XL FX has similar specs to the 172X FX, but the 173 has a larger and faster set of harddrives, a tray instead of slot load optical drive, and a 64 bit operating system
