Anyone having trouble trying to find a smooth frame rate (30+fps) at a decent resolution on a Gateway FX laptop? If so, please post your settings and graphics driver version.
I updated to the 1.2 patch and it still runs horribly at 1400x900. This is the only game except Crysis 1 and 2 that I could not play at 1920x1200 even after my upgrades (see: signature).

I would really like some input as well. I have the p-7811 fx from Gateway, and it has always impressed me with its performance, but the Witcher 2 is so sluggish for me. Any settings help would be great.
-
Well it's going to be a challange.. even with my spec's the TW2 dropped to 22 fps @ stock clocks during intense battle and averaged around 35 - 40.. throughout the game.

I don't know anything about the game but with Crysis if you ran the game in DX9 it gave you a good FPS boost.
-
I would understand not being able to play at 1920x1200 because of how demanding the game is but at 1440x900 at medium/low settings the game looks worse than the first Witcher.
-
The game is too demanding for cards like 9800M gts, even at 1280x720 on medium settings it still dips below 20fps on many occasions on my G50. I eventually gave up, guess it will try it on my next soon-arrive laptop again. Only high end cards like 460M/5870M or better will have a good chance running the game smoothly at decent resolutions.
-
I can actually play it at 1440x900 on Medium at 30 fps. However, it still looks very ugly.
-
Well, that's how it is, even the current best cards 485m/6970m paired with SB i7 can't max the settings at 1080p, motion blur/AA and of course uber-sampling still need to be turned off. Basically anything below 555m/6770m won't make the game run pretty, and on top of that according to other sources and benchmark comparison, a modern quad-core is also needed.
-
umm no.. the 460M makes the game run amazingly.. check out the ASUS forums.. TW2 looks incredible with the 460M and runs at a smooth 30 - 40 fps on medium + settings.

I am running The Witcher 2 on my p7805u @ 1280x720 off my projector with the highest presets settings, all post process effects enabled. I altered shadows to high instead of Ultra and Number of Shadowed lights to medium, disabled Vertical sync. I average around 22-27fps in the beginning of the game, I've gotten to the assault section.

@andros
Yikes, that is some awful performance. If this is Witcher 2 performs on a modded Gateway FX, I can't even imagine Battlefield 3 and Skyrim. -
-
I find the performance incredibly demanding. I turned down all the settings to 800x600 with everything on low and fraps displayed that I was getting around 50 fps average (21 being the lowest).
I then proceeded to try every resolution between 800x600 and 1920x1200 with everything on low. Every resolution between 1280x720 and 1440x900 ran at around 30fps average while at 1600x1024, it ran around 25fps. It drops to the 18fps average at 1920x1200 with everything on medium (uber and ssao turned off).
I guess I'll skip The Witcher 2 for Dungeon Siege 3 (which ran easily at 1920x1200 2xAA High at around 35-45 fps).
I'm still in search of the setting that can bump the performance up by 10fps. -
How is the framerate decreasing as you increase the resolution inconsistent?

IMHO, this game sucked! After a day of herky jerky game play, i dumped it.
I thought the game might come around in the sewer section while looking for a way into the castle..however the fight scenes were destroying my mouse!
As far as game design, it was pretty ugly with every thing turned down. I sure with the right hardware and everything set to "Über" the game should look better. But for now, I'll pass and check out DS3. -
-
I just played around with the settings today and reconfigured to 1280x720 with the settings in the pic below and get and average of 30-37 fps now
very happy with the performance and the visual quality is about the same as before.

Better late than never
I had to get New Vegas off my drive.
Well, I re-installed, all new patches and turned down to 1280x720. Not bad, plays way better with way fewer bugs than W1. I did have to reload once as I was trapped in the rose garden bathhouse depending on if you want the bath or not
It's great to be out in the steamy county side with all the friendly critters, no?
I still rather a game to a movie, but that's just me..back to the beginning of chapter 2... -
Witcher 2 on P7805u - YouTube

I run it at low and it's the best I can do. Specs in sig. I care more about actually playing it as opposed to seeing how beautiful it is.
