So a co-working wants to sell me his p-7805u but I have a few questions first.

I've done some research and I guess there were many of these selling as refurbished. Is there a way to tell if it is refurbished or not?

Also, how much do you guys think I should pay for it? It's in pretty good condition, never been dropped, a few feather light scratches from normal wear and everything works flawlessly on it.

Does it have any upgrades? Is it the 1200p or the 900p screen? Is he selling it to you with the OS installed? All of these are factors in the price, but I would imagine you should pay him from 400-500 dollars if it's stock.

There would be no real way to tell if it is a refurb other that the original reciept. as to the screen you have to detrmine if 900p or 1200p is your preference. IMHO with no real upgrades 350-400 is about right for price, if it were the 1200p 450-500 would be the price. Both prices are if he can burn you the original restore disks just in case...............

Yeah, the laptop should cost $500 if it's stock. If it has an extreme processor or T9900 processor, then you should bump the price up around $150.

I believe the Win 7 upgrade offer expired a long time ago so if you want Win 7 now you'll have to buy the upgrade.

Its funny now that you mention the win 7 upgrade as i have mine sitting in my room somewhere unopened since i never needed it cause i updated to win 7 ultimate before i received the free home premium upgrade disc(maybe i should sell it? gonna have to think about that one later).

I also agree that a $400-500 price tag would be a fair asking price. Since its your co-worker or possibly your mate that wants to sell it to yah maybe try asking em to let you borrow it for a few days to see if its something you would want.(if your unsure?) As for the resolution i personally dont think that should have much if at all to do with what you pay since its a personal preference kind of thing.
$150 more for an extreme or t9900? i dunno what they cost now but that price makes me weep as i paid a little over $300 for my x9100 long ago :p

Of course resolution goes to price since normally it costs more to have the higher resolution at the point of original sale. With the P7805 though some got a free upgrade to 1200p. This doesn't mean they will pass that "free" part onto the next consumer.

The fact that you no longer can get true 1200p laptops new makes the value of the 1200p p7805's even a bit higher. As they out date to unusability the value will do the same. In fact I am now contemplating a Sager and high end IPS screen for desktop use. A 560m won't convince me to loose my system but a 580m GTX is tempting with d/dvi output............

Yeah, when I saw that I immediately thought, "Hell no, its at least $250 more." I have looked online and the T9900 is going for about $370, I had bought mine for $350 way back when it there was a great deal through HP Business site. If it were a deal breaker I would just stick the P8400 back in it. And use the T9900 in something else.
