I am thinking of upgrading my P7805u finally because I don't see getting rid of it for a while. Here are my planned upgrades. Please tell me what you think.

1.) P7908u/7915u motherboard - for the gtx 260m. Found a good deal on one.

2.) 1920x1200 screen - any suggestions on brand and such is appreciated

3.) Intel 6300 wifi antenna with 3rd antenna mod

    4.) Internal Bluetooth

5.) CPU upgrade - x9100 or quad core if the new motherboard would allow it. Anyone know if it would?

6.) Overclocking - Use hardware mod and TS to overclock my system

    7.) 1333mhz Ram - 8GB of probably Geil 1333mhz ram

    8.) Any other ideas?

I appreciate any feed back or ideas you have. Thanks!

You might offer your old board for other members here, real reasonable.

Hmm wonder how hard it would be to swap the motherboard. I'd be tempted to get a 79xx motherboard.

is the 7805u CPU capatible with the 79xx motherboard?

I'm running a 7901 in place of a 7811. Fit perfect, and everything swaps over. Easy as pulling to clean.

Thanks for posting this, I also was wanting to upgrade my laptop but not as much as you do. :p You're going to have quite a project to do.

All I really know is that usually everyone that I've seen anyway upgrades to the X9100. Sorry for my lack of knowledge.

No problem. I was thinking that the x9100 was the best option, but if the new board would allow quad cores, that seems like the way to go.

What all do you want to do to your 7805?

Since my laptop shipped with the big screen :D, all I really wanted to do was change the CPU, and maybe get a better motherboard that will allow the 260m GTX. Possibly more RAM I don't really think I'll need it. This is if I really want a laptop that will get me through for a couple years and it not being outdated, hard to do but maybe possible.

In short, right now all I really want is a new CPU.

Cool. That's what I'm upgrading mine for. As long as it's not too expensive, I don't see why not. After all my upgrades, I wouldn't need to upgrade for awhile.

1.) The main board (P-79xx) is supposed to do Quads, no one has tried it yet though.

2.) The memory will run on the P45 chipset as 1066mhz if this matters on the price of your ram. You do not need 1333 MHz memory.

3.) Your only real upgrades left are SSD and BlueRay drives.

4.) You could add a flush USB 3.0 for the pci-e 54 slot. If just for expansion drives though the included eSATA may be an option.

5.) I am not too sure about the screens but there originally was an AUO and LG pannel. Supposedly the LG was the better of the two. I have the AUO and have no real complaints about it. When people were getting these new a few people had the two screens to compare side by side and said the LG was better but tweaked the AUUO was about as good.

6.) Since you are going to replace the panel and pull the system appart it would be a great time to add the third antenea. Good time for the internal BT module as well.

7.) You might want to replace both fans too. I think they are fairly cheap but install those and keep the ones you have already on the side in case of failure. Eventually these will become unavailable and this will be insurance for later on. If the case were still in production I wouldn't take this stance but since it isn't it might be a good idea.

Let us know how it all goes..................

If I was you I would sell your current unit and go with a M17x-R2(I currently own one) or a M17x-R3. Trust me, as long as you get a properly working unit I'm sure you will be more than satisfied. 2 years ago I owned a G51GX then a G71GX. Both of those units had a 260M GTX. By todays standards the 260M GTX is serioulsy outdated. The 5870M is a great performer especially more so in a Xrossfire config. The M17x-R2 is so well put together/designed....I don't even know where to begin about how nice this computer is as long as you get a working unit. Don't bother with the G73JH....that was a nightmare of an experience for me.

I don't know what your finacial situation looks like at the moment but if your not ready to make a M17x purchase I would recommend holding off until you can.

If you would like to discuss this any further PM me. I probably wont come back to the Gateway forums again. I just checked my inbox and saw your message awhile back and wanted to know what you decided on.

    Good Luck!!
