Well once I get it back, It should be running fine, and this will be the specs at that time.

    CPU: Core 2 Extreme X7800
    RAM: 3 GB DDR2 667
    HDD: 1 250GB WD Scorpio, and 1 120GB WD Scorpio, both 5400rpm
1440x900 WXGA+, DVD drive, etc you guys all know the specs.

I was thinking if I could get around $1200 or more for it I could build a much better desktop, since I really dont need a laptop for school.

Just glanced on Ebay, and saw a guy selling same thing, with a T8300, selling for $1200.

    What you guys think?

ps hope the Dook incident wouldnt scar this..

there are some things such as my CPU that outweigh other things like the screen, and the 9800m GTS.

also im only selling in Canada, and it is guaranteed someone would rather not go through the border etc.

but maybe your right? im still looking into it.

I sold one 6831fx (for $1150 CDN + iBook G4) a few months ago. The FX was equipped with an x7900, 4 GB RAM and one 250 GB HDD.

My current FX with an x7800, 4 GB RAM and 2x250 GB HDD was on the market for $1400 until I came to my senses and I had a few people interested.

List it for $1400 and see what you get.

With the low CDN dollar you'll be fine.

But you should keep it. A desktop is nice but a significant other will not resent a laptop as much as a desktop (wife, gf, bf).

see the thing is im 18, got no significant other :S

aha, but the reason I got a laptop in the first place, is to work on school work at school, but not on their comps, etc.

My laptop has been not working for a decent amount of time now, and I have benen using my desktop in the basement, and school comps for work, and it is almost easier. Sure its nice having portable performance, but if i dont need it, why pay a premium when I can have something much better?

I will put it up and see if I get any offers.

As they say, it's worth the highest price that someone will pay for it. If you're at a university, sell it on your University Classifieds and you'll get more. I sold my 3 year used Dell Inspiron 6000, 512mb ram, 1.6ghz cpu, ATI radeon x300, 40gb hard drive with burn marks from overheating for $350 to a Dining Hall Manager who was buying it for her husband. As long as the buyer is happy with their purchase and you're not blatantly trying to rip them off, then it's simple business.

When I listed that laptop here at NBR for a price check, people agreed it would sell for about $225. People here at NBR, and this includes myself, simply know too much about internal components and that makes them perfectionists, they want the newest and they want futureproof. To some people at NBR, DDR3 is soo much better than DDR2 simply because its newer, even if the performance increase is minimal, whereas to your best friend down the street who just wants to game, he couldn't care less. In summary, the guy who looks at performance, components, newer tech, futureproof based laptops, the value of your 6831 will be much lower than the guy who's only looking at the most important thing - performance. If you find the people just looking to game, and not looking for something to brag about to the few people who actually know what they're saying, then I think you can easily get $1200.

well I put er up for $1500 on ebay, that works out to about $1100 American, so this would be a hell of a snag for some American.

thanks Jakamo, I will try my colleges classifieds, as well as the local classifieds.

ps bwhxoen, will pm u later, gotta get to class :|

There was this guy in jacksonville, fl (back from sea)
    http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/sys/893047858.html
    He sold it for 900...
    HERE ARE THE SPECS:
    INTEL X7900 2.8GHZ EXTREME C2D PROCESSOR
    NVIDIA 8800GTS 512MB VIDEO CARD
    3GB DDR2 RAM
    1440x900 17IN SCREEN
    640GB HD(320 x 2)
    8X DVD-RW
    1.2 MP WEBCAM
    HDMI, ESATA, 3x USB
    LOGITECH WIRELESS USB MOUSE
    TARGUS COOLING PAD

So idk why he got rid of it so cheap to build a new desktop rig when that laptop was better than any rig at 900. imo

for 900 you can build a crazy good desktop man, and im hoping to get more, so I can build an i7 setup.

I just dont need a laptop, sure its nice to have but I really want the upgradeability. Each has his own opinion i guess.

I know you're probably wanting to build your own since that's half the fun, but since you mentioned the i7, have you seen the new gateway desktop?

I did see that, absolutley insane.

They are making absolutley no profit on that, as I cannot build that myself for cheaper.

They might have a cheaper MB though, because the cheapest LGA 1366 MB I can find is $250.
