Yes it will fit, you will just have to swap out the bezel on it with your "stock" one.

yeah you will need to get powerdvd or something like that to watch the movies. all you have to is take of the gateway bezel and put it on the blueray one. its really simple

I just bought this one from Compgeeks (they seem to have sold out on Amazon). It's the Sony BC5500a, and it seems to have somewhat higher DVD specs than the Panasonic. I should be getting it today or tomorrow, so I'll post the results of the installation.

Oh and you might be able to use XBMC (Xbox Media Center) to play the movies. Open source (free), nice look, seems to work ok, although I've yet to try out a Blu-Ray.

Yep, the BC5500A works like a champ - swapping the faceplate was easy once I figured out to push on the little black tabs that were holding the stock one in - they're about a quarter inch down from the plate on one side of the drive. There's a guide thread here somewhere, but the new Google search can't find it, even though I remember it started with @@ to make the title unique.

I have a Blu-Ray disc ordered from Netflix, but I need to find player software now - XBMC will not do Blu-Ray until someone releases the decoder so they can put it in.

Try Power DVD BD, DvD flick, WinDvd, TMT(ArcSoft's TotalMedia Theatre), Nero Ultra and HP Quickplay thats all i can come up right now. TMT is the better of them.

If I go this route will the player with the right software play all Blue ray discs?

Thanks, but no way I'm going to pay as much for the player software as I did the DRIVE lol. It shouldn't be long before someone puts out a library that the freeware players pick up. VideoLan latest can already play the M2TS streams within a Blu-Ray, so that's half the battle right there :)
