ICD 7, a notebook cooler, a better power supply (Targus 180W) and the powerful X9100 processor have all contributed to the longevity and good temperatures of my (7801u) laptop. However, I have always found a good Throttlestop profile constantly elusive. Which profile is the best for undervolting for simple Internet browsing and extending battery life? Which profile is the best for medium intensive tasks? Does it require SLFM enabled? Which profile is the best to play CPU intensive games, such as Battlefield 3, Skyrim and GTA IV?

Post your STABLE Throttlestop settings here for the following profiles:
Note: X9100 users only; Screenshots recommended.

    1. Battery Saving/Internet Browsing/Undervolting
    2. Normal Use (Medium CPU tasks)
    3. Heavy Gaming

Make sure that you include your laptop model (P-78xx, 79xx).
If you have extra profiles that you consider essential, feel free to add them and a general description.

Here's to the Gateway FX laptops for still being able to play the latest games!

You're exempt. You are the god of the Gateway notebook sub forum. I'm not sure why you're not a mod.

Thanks, it seems we do not even have a mod. Apparently we've not had one for a while then again there is little traffic here. Also it doesn't seem any mods have had to do any work here in a long time...............

    My current setup

Battery profile (for browsing and spreadsheets)

My gaming profile is still just set at stock X9100 settings since I've never found the sweet spot. I have seen negligible differences when it comes to console ports and other non PC optomized games. Battlefield 3, The Witcher 2, Civilization V and similar CPU intensive games benefit from an overclock but I still can't seem to find a good one for my X9100 C0 stepping.

If stock clocks work for you then leave it stock but consider undervolting it though. The CPU will last longer along with the TIM install and even less ware and tare on the HS and fan...........

Here's my profile, this is the lowest I can get it while remaining stable.

As you can see, it dropped my temps quite a bit, and even increased my FPS in game.

As far as I know any bios will work with the x9100. If you ae still in vista you should be able to run the stock bios but with version 9c.17.00 it is better optimized for the 6MB L2........

the cooling pad will have little to do with the CPU. Just keep the air vents and fan etc. free of dust and other debrise. The pad is more there to keep idle temps down when the internal fans are not moving much air. Also it tedn to keep dust aand other debrise from accumulating inder the laptop. This usually keeps operating temps down a bit too as now the HS is cooler when load hits it. For general usage the pad will be fine.

Just remember you are moving mnore air around so dust etc will gather quicker, so keep it clean. Also TS and undervolt helps quite a bit. In the end your planned setup should do fine for you.......

NP, undervolting will only extend the life of your system by keeping things cooler. Heat is the enemy of all electronic components. The fact you will consume a bit less elecricity is a plus too.
