Tips & Tricks for new owners of P-7811FX ?

Okay I finally decided to go with 7811FX and got it today from bestbuy. I was going thru this forum to check information about 7811FX. I didnot find anywhere tips and tricks of what to do with your new machine to run it optimal. Luckily there is not much junk installed on this system compared to other systems that I've seen in past. Are there any special tweaks for this machine ?

 

It will go on sale next week for 1249...be sure to bring in your receipt to get a price match.

 

go to security center and disable windows defender. Replace it with some other malware/virus program if you desire.

Uninstall norton, office trial, netzero and other "bloatware" thingies...

Once that is done open a run terminal and type 'msconfig'
disable various things that you don't want to start and boot...
(i've disabled : Steam, Power ISO, Chicony tray, Winamp Agent, Windows Defender, and Big Fix)
Click apply and reboot... check "don't display this message again when window pops up"

Then just set it up however you would normally. With your programs and such... Remove UAC if you want etc.


Or do a fresh install of vista after making a Driver disk.... I personally didn't feel the need with this laptop. However the choice is yours.

 

If you already got the laptop for $1449 can you get the $200 difference refunded?

create a backup DVD and reinstall OS with the disc that came with the machine and increase digital vibration to 50+

Probably we should have sticky for new owners, you are right this notebook is not as loaded with crapware as other does.

=O Seriously about the price? I was thinking of getting this laptop over the NP 5796 but was concerned about the processor power; with the money I save I could almost buy a T9400. When exactly does the sale start/end and how do you know about it? I need to know precisely since I'm from Canada and need to cross the border to buy it because it isn't offered in Canadian Best Buys.

 

Yes. but you'll have to go to the store in person (don't forget the receipt!). They won't do it otherwise (security reasons).

By default in vista the p-7811FX's speakers are not configured for maximum volume, check my response in this post for the quick sound fix.

It is listed in the Bestbuy ad for this sunday. Some people get the ads early then post scans of the ads online.

No link, but my buddy at Best Buy showed me the ad in the store. Just take our word for it, or wait till the 31st

Does anyone know if it would be possible to upgrade the cpu to a T9400? I'm afraid the P8400 won't fulfill my expectations and will lag 1080p h264 content.

 

I answered your question in the other thread . Yes it will technically work, however there are currently some heat-related problems with the 7811, so I would suggest holding off until those are resolved.

 

The cpu is plenty fast. I played a 1080p movie earlier perfectly.

 

It seems like this thread is becoming more of buying P-7811FX from bestbuy rather than technical information that can help new users.
