thanks i got it though. i need to stay away from 3.0 though, it doesnt overheat, but it throttles so it doesnt. Honestly, the only way mine overheats is when i push it for over 10 minutes on max at 3.0. Playing games and converting movies and everything else it is fine. I really dont care about benchmarking, so it is fine for me.

Cool! Now you can bask in the "x" goodness with the rest of us! And what you said about gaming temps is very true. You are very unlikely to get anywhere near throttling range. The highest I have seen while gaming is 66C.

PS- Now that its workin, change that siggy! :)

Ya i got pretty lucky with my UV at 1.0 but i am using a t9300 but was happy nonetheless and it dropped my max temps by about the same 8 degrees.

Yea. It seems everyone is getting a better UV than mine. Im stuck at 1.250V. Anything else causes STOP errors in Orthos. The system doesnt crash tho, apparently the UV causes the CPU to forget how to add properly. :D

That being said, the highest I have seen is 80C after an hour of orthos@3ghz. So im pretty happy. I would have liked to UV it a bit more, but eh. Definitely not something I would consider a problem. Especially for what I paid. :)

Hey Quad, I meant to tell you, that link to the LCD you gave me the other day didnt work. got some sort of ebay error. Do you have another? I'm really interested and the fact that you give it high marks is a plus when shopping.

over 13 minutes, im gunna let it go for an hour, this makes me feel alot better.

I also applied too much thermal paste before, it was almost all over the CPU and the other chip beside it. I cleaned them up, and it is all over the copper heat sink that touches the CPU, the cpu heat sink, and the thats it. Made sure it was even, and bolted down tight. It is much better now, idleing at 36-42C :) Thanks everyone for they're help, I really appreciate it.

Cool. Yea too much thermal goop can actually cause heat problems, not to mention can short something out if you have the silver stuff. Sounds like you got it taken care of now tho. Glad to hear it.

Your OC is whats probably causing the false hardware error.

I suggest you use Intel TAT or wPrime to do the stress test.

I would have used TAT, but cant due to me running 64-bit. I can, however use wprime. I'll probably try that.

I just dropped my voltage to 1.212 and while running wPrime, I never get above 71C. :D Thanks for the info on the false error in Orthos, flip. I'm gonna try running TAT on an XP VM and see what happens.

EDIT: TAT wont run in the VM, but I didnt figure it would. I guess Ill just use wPrime and maybe try to run two instances.Im using OCCT now.

Yeap. Ive been Oced the whole time with no problems at 1.250volts. Im just seeing how far it will let me go. 1.212 crashed when using OCCT, so I bumped it up a bit to 1.220

Im running both OCCT and wPrime simultaneously and maxing at 74C. God I hope this voltage remains stable! If not, no big deal, the max was 79C-81C on 1.25 perfectly stable.

i have it @2.8 right now at 1.1375, fully stable :) this must be a retail chip because I dont think a ES could handle this.

Lied, not fully stable, after 20min on Orthos it *stopped*

So im at 1.15 now, we will see , should be fine.

Not a huge surprise... ES chips mean that they were possibly pre-production, kind of like a beta chip... but they could be 100% of the retail chips... could mean they have been heavily abused (heavily OC'd, extreme voltages).... but maybe not. Doesn't sound like anyone's had any complaints so far about ES chips, at least on this forum

Yea, I don't think I've heard one thing about anyone having a problem with ES chips(although I'm sure there are cases). Thus the reason I had no hesitation in purchasing mine. God knows, I'm giving it a workout too! :)

Check your CPU stepping, compare it to the latest x9000 stepping and check the intel documents on what improvements & fixes they have done since.

Hellz yeah! Ya'll got me beat on the UV, that's fo sho. The lowest I can get is 1.212v, but at that voltage, I max around 74C. I keep it at 1.237v, tho just to be safe, which maxes out temps at around 80C. This generic silver thermal paste I got from Best Buy does surprisingly well, albeit a bit expensive. It was only purchased as a stand-in until I had a chance to order more AS5, but I think I'm just gonna leave it be.

my chip is on there :) So i know it is not an ES now ,SLA6Z, and I have it at 3.0 @ 1.16, will let you know how stable it is, its fine so far on the wPrime stability test, will need to try the orthos one though just to be safe.

Nvm, the lowest i can UV @3.0 is 1.2125, and it still heats up like crazy, well over 90C. oh ps I found one of the springs!

re-applied ALL of the thermal paste, put the one spring in and made another one out of a pen, and bolted em down. @2.8 right now UVed to 1.13, been going at Orthos for almost 15 mins maxing at 78C :)

It only took me a fu#k&ng week

I am going to make my own notebook cooler as well. I have this plastic basket that is the perfect size, and is about 2 inches high.

Im going to mount fans below the air intakes, and have them blowing into the laptop, should cool it even more.

    good gods 94deg temps!?

Did you have to increase the voltage to get it clocked that high? Because @3.0gHz (the max we can go in the FX series) i'm undervolted to 1.0volts in just about all of my multipliers and i havent seen temps barely over 1/2 of that even at max loads. I guess it could take an extra 4.375 volts to get to 3.6gHz, but that just seems like a HUGE difference.

Of course @fullload, normal about 3X~4X °C. But as soon as CPU goes to 100%, the temp raises very quickly. Maybe i´d try the UV to 1.0V and check if 3.0G is stable. :D

So what over clock can you reach with out increaseing the voltage over stock?

Because i want (assuming the BIOS gods are kind to us) try to reach 3.2 or 3.4 (3.6 would rock but i figure thats a bit out of reach)

But if i have to start increasing voltage its not really worth it to me. But i wouldnt figure i would have to increase to 1.4+ volts just to get 3.6...thats a huge jump

*and by BIOS gods i mean johnksss
