Somewhat quick question, I'm wondering whats the main benefits of doing a fresh Vista Install? I have a bunch of programs and whatnot already loaded up but I'm unsure if having to reinstall/rip everything all over again is worth the gains?

A fresh install allows you to get rid of all the bloatware/bogus software that comes pre-installed on the laptop ( stuff not needed IMHO ). It also allows you to install only what you want running on the system and in the background. You'd be surprised how much faster a fresh install/cleaned system will run.

How many programs did you already install, shouldn't take days. Maybe a few hours tops.

Anything I download to the PC I also burn to a backup CD/DVD, saves me the trouble in the future of having to re-download.

I'm actually thinking of going that route. Burn anything "large" onto a DVD to save any annoying DL times and simply end up just copying them^^

i highly recommend reinstalling windows as the one u got from store will be loaded with lots of bloatware. it will be slow. it will have unnecessary edits in Os (in my case a power plan called "dell recommended")well if u dont like frequent reinstallations u can just do reinstallation for one time, then install whatever programs u want and use a program such as acronis to back up the drives entirely to a removable hard drive or DVD. u can use this to reinstall vista with ur required programs whenever needed

You may want to look into this free program, it alows you to remove all the blotware whatout reloading your OS. I tryed it and it works, I would uninstall the antivirus first though. here is the website. I heard about this from the "Tech Guy" Leo Leport If your not happy afterwards reinstall vista. 5 mins compared too hours ?
