    Computer Details:
    Gateway NV53, Windows 7 64-bit

So lately my laptop has been giving me some grief with all kinds of issues (lag, audio problems, etc), so I figured I would restore it to factory default settings.

I've lost the first Factory Default disk I created so I wanted to make a new one. I opened up Gateway Recovery Management and clicked on "Create Factory Default Disk."

Here's the problem: When I click "START," the burning timer goes up to about 10 seconds before giving me the following error:

A blue "Details" link shows the following:
I'm using Verbatim DVD-R, and I've tried several different blank disks (I only have the one brand right now). The program does not write anything on the disk. And I'm sure it's not a problem with the drive since I just finished burning some data onto one of the disks that were rejected.

I googled the error code and it turns out other people have had a problem with an "eRecovery" program but only on their 2nd (2/3) disk, and a Gateway site described this error on certain Windows Vista models, NV53 not being among them. I'm hesitant to install a patch that wasn't meant for this system, so I'll hold off on that solution for now.

I would appreciate any insight into this. Thanks.

edit: [Thread title should read: "Trying to Create a Factory Restore Disk," (whoops)]

Yeah I wouldn't install a patch meant for another system. Let me ask you this question, is your DVD drive able to burn other data CDs, not just music ones? Try burning the CD image of another CD onto a blank disk and see if it works, if it doesn't for some reason, it could be a driver issue with the burner/burning software and could have nothing to do with the system at all. Anyway, it's worth a shot! :)
