So I still have my 7805u. I upgraded the HD to an SSD, added a blu ray player and increased the ram to 8 gigs. I reinstalled Windows 7 and have only installed some games (Rome Total war, ddo) adobe suite, Office and some art programs. Everything runs great and I don't see the need to buy a new lap top just yet since I haven't run into any problems. Of course the battery is only giving me an hour and half or so of power and I was thinking about purchasing a new 9cell battery off ebay. Has anyone gotten a new battery? How much of a power boost will a new battery give me, since I remember when the laptop was new I was getting 2-21/2 hours out of it. Is it worth it to get a new battery or just use it plugged when I run out of juice?

There are no batteries that will extend what you originally had. 2-2.5 hours is about the best you can expect. Some newer games may be a bit more demanding so the time frame of 2.5 hours could be reduced much further. This is the price of any gaming system not just ours.

I think the original was 9 cell 86.6 watt hour. So unless the new one is rated higher, you will get the battery life you did before. And the more programs running in the background, the shorter the battery will last. Typically batteries will last from one to three years.
It is your call to replace it or not. Be warry of ebay, some sellers sell used batteries, or used cells in the battery. This shortens life. Though I did buy my last battery from ebay.
Trying to decide on new battery....
